This week's poll asks:

Should our beaches and Territorial Sea be owned by the Crown?

Quote:
*Free access for ALL NEW ZEALANDERS. Roberta

*Who cares anymore, certainly not the 53,000 who left NZ in the last year. And don't think the 13,000 who came to NZ will stay. It is just a stop off until they get residency and can also get to Australia through the back door. Chris

*Hopefully the events in Auckland with the Takapuna land and the maori statutory body denanding $295 million from the council should stir a few people into action. Frank

*Then it will be for us all not just a few who will prevent the rest from its use and for the nations good!! John

*This is supposed to be a country peole who all treated as new zealanders not a racist political subdivsion of emigrants. IAN

*Without a doubt!! There should be a one New Zealand, one New Zealander policy. One Law for One Nation and One People! Allan

*Yes, we should all have ownership and access to our beaches. However, the Iwis and Government will probably have their own way. Then, him, her and the dogs are off to Oz - again. Prue

*Enough's enough how much more are we giving these greedy greedy people!!!. Mana = money. Sally

*As signed by 545 rangatira in 1840. Te Tiriti o Waitangi as signed is our founding document. Not the 1975 version written by Geoffrey Palmer and enacted by Cook at law. Maureen

*All New Zealanders should have title to the seabed & foreshore. Murray

This week's poll asks:

Should our beaches and Territorial Sea be owned by the Crown?

Quote:
*If it is not, then we are allready on the way to dooms day. Rudy

*We were headed for a wonderful balanced bi-cultural nation. Vote-trading under MMP has destroyed the promise of this equitable balance. We are headed for a kind of apartheid. I have been told about barbed wire fences going down into the sea in South Africa. This is what we will have, in effect, if not in fact. Jennifer

*The beaches and sea should be there for the country to own, for everyones enjoyment, not by self interested parties (iwi) who will inhibit normal New Zealanders from what should be enjoyed and shared by all, not just maori. Natasha

*If the crown represents all peoples with New Zealand citizenship but it seems this Government favours one group ignoring the rights of others. Mary

*Who is the supreme government of New Zealand and who is acknowledged as electing them, Maori on the Maori or New Zealanders on the general roll. So called Governements have acted in bad faith on New Zealanders. When a government selected by the majority are unable to govern in all truthfulness they become perfidious. Bill

*At the last election we believed that National's mandate was to abolish Maori seats in an effort to unify the country. Instead National has submitted to the demands of the Maori Party and the proposed sell out of the Foreshore and Seabed is a massive betrayal that will divide the country. Peter

*Ownership by the Government is the only sensible answer. Nat wants short term gain for long term disaster. Wayne

*This is a democracy, or it was when I was born. Who has the right to change it ? NZ for NZ ers. Warwick

*Foreshore and Seabed belong to everybody (Crown) not just some coastal iwi. Hans

*To dam right they should be, the iwis are just becoming millstones around our necks. Mervyn

*Only by Crown ownership wiil we find equqlity for all. Tribal ownership is highly divisiv and will onlt lesd to split country. Brian

Emus and kangaroos cannot walk backwards and are on the Australian coat of arms for that reason. An absolutely useless fact, however in NZ, the politicos and the politically-correct cultural marxists seems intent on walking us all backwards to stoneage tribal laws.

Forget about an inquiry into Nick Smith's conduct, how about an inquiry into the unelected, arrogant Christopher Finlayson who seems to be hellbent on moving us backwards into iwi barbarism. C. Finlayson has also been given N. Smith's Environment portfolio; he is the most dangerous politician of all.

And a good point, what about the defence of our country if Maori control all the coastline?

Quote:
*All Beaches are for all new zealanders to enjoy. Elizabeth

*It should be public owned by all. Walter

*NZ will never move forward as 'one nation' till all are treated equally and all areas are publicly accessible. One group should never have the power to dictate to the majority and decisions should be made in a fair and unselfish way. How long does the government keep apologising for all our ancestors decisions. As long as there is a dollar in it claimants will always come up with reasons wanting more. If the compensations were repaid at sixpence an acre or the value in our ancestor's time and not todays market values these claims would have fizzled out pretty quickly. Charles

*Yes, it's the only way for NZ to move forward together. The 'fiscal envelope' is getting pushed out further & further. Mary

*These areas belong to ALL New Zealanders, not just a chosen few due to some behind the scenes deal. Barrie

*The Foreshore & Seabed Bill is undemocratic & must be repealed. Harry

*Yes we all own the beaches & sea no one group should have control. Geoff

*Yes they should and I am of the opinion that Chris Finlayson needs to be charged with treason and penalised accordingly. He is a traitor of the highest order. The racial descrimination in this legislation is every bit as bad as the apartheid regime that dominated South Africa and was so vehemently attacked by all the Cuban trained radicals that now infest our university faculties and Parliament. The likes of Keith Locke, Sue Bradford, Hone Harawira, Donna Awatere, Anete Sykes, etc etc etc adfinitum. Dianna

*Incomprehensible that the government will go down this track. Terry

*We are all equals!! Werner

*You bet! And let us stop for once and for all the evil, non democratic, secret deals between ministers and the part-Maori elite. Rob

*Foreshore and Seabeds belong to us all, and we all have a right to them, irrespective of skin colour or ethnicity. To have them in Crown ownership is the only fair and just way to go. Laurence

*Of course the beaches and territorial sea, including the "foreshore and seabed" should be owned by the crown. Further to that, this government has no mandate to give away our shores to anyone who thinks they might have a right to own them. Neil

*But I will go blue waiting for the average kiwi to awake from his / her slumber and do something about it. Public Apathy is the key ally of the professional politician and the elitist professional agitator. Say it's not true. The average punter gets what he / she deserves and that's exactly what they will get. More bread and circuses anyone? Peter

*I want to see the end of apartheid in NZ, not see it fuelled. Peter

Quote:
*Of course they should - but although I support the Coastal coalition's CIR on the subject, I believe that even if the referendum goes ahead and the outcome is favorable, nothing will change.
We have already had a referendum on the number of MPs and this was ignored.
On the MMP review the peasants are allowed opinions on the minor issues but not on the number of MPs or maori seats.
Something is deeply rotten in our democracy! John

*About the only thing Helen Clark got right! John

*The midget minds who made the change will have to GO. Malcolm

*National Politicans should be ashamed of themselves. Colin

*Yes, the Crown must own all of our beaches to protect them for the benefit of ALL citizens in New Zealand. To think that the National Party and John Key will stoop so low to preserve their position in power by giving OUR beaches to part-Maori is beyond belief. I call on all concerned citizens to protest and make every effort to kick Key out of Parliament. Ernest

*The beaches and the territorial waters should be owned directly by the people of New Zealand. That's all of us. Politicians cannot be trusted with anything. K

*Should not be up for private ownership. Robin

*Waste of time, the greedy damn nats will trade off our coast for moari seats,,,and you know it!...Nats policies are a REAL danger during a global recession Period!! Rick

*All kiwis should be able to access NZ coast. Briar

*One country, one people, not race based policies. Gareth

*These should be owned and accessible by all New Zealanders and not by a chosen few Maori. Desmond

*Will New Zealanders and their elected politicians ever get real and start to consider ALL Citizens and not just a minority of Maori. John

*Yes, they must be owned by the Crown with no exceptions. This means that all reparian rights should be abolished too. That will be fair and unarguable for all. Peter

*Absolutely, no group should ever be allowed ownership of the coast. Clark

*NZ for ALL NZers. Neil

*Most definately to be owned by everyone. Harry

*Maori have no more rite to the foreshore & seabed than any other citizen. why are we in NZ runningseperate sweet deals for 15% of the population who are only part Maori. Ian

*Definitely and in perpetuity. Ineke

*We are only on this Earth for a short period of time, no one owns the land, we are just borrowing it for a while. Graham

*In my book Finlayson is the most dangerous man walking this earth. It raises the question who is allowing him this unbridled power? Interesting. Vern

*Any other option is untenable. Sheila

*The beaches and foreshore should remain in crown ownership in actual fact it should never have got this far, our Maori brethren are just using the pakeha system to there own advantage. There will be trouble here in the not too distant future, if these claims are not stopped. as these radical claims are getting bigger and it remains to be seen just how far we ( us of European descent) as against those of Pacifica descent, have to continue to pay this ridiculous amount of money to live in the country of our birth. We would all do well to remember where we all came from, it is always rammed down our throats that we are not tangata whenua neither are our Maori brethren we all explored and found this place,we should all work for this country now as one NZer's, not just one race of people hell bent on living off the back of other hard working people of any culture, and still bleating the rest of us owe them a bloody living. it will came to pass that we won't even be able to stand on a beach in this country without paying rent to some obscure Iwi. Brian

*Of course they should they belong to ALL New Zealanders equally. Bruce

Quote:
*Most definitely! Enough of Maori scams and of Findlayson the corupt List megalomaniac apologist. Al

*Surely the govt can say no to maori and treat them like ordinary New Zealanders! Willy

*As they were with the treaty. Graeme

*Yes, Now and for always. The foreshore & seabed Is owned by all New Zealanders. Bill

*Absolutely! Key may be a popular PM but that doesn't of itself make him a good or wise PM. On most social and race-relations issues he is appallingly weak, deceitful in the extreme and his word is not to be trusted. Finlayson is a little man with little vision whose reality seems to be governed by his obvious racial predjudices which almost completely favour Maori.
The cost of Key's unnecessary deal with Maori in National's first term is huge which this F & S legislation exemplifies. But there is much more to come with the pro-Maori constituional review well underway, and there is only one race who are determined to to be the winners - and it won't be non-Maori. As a long-term National supporter I am sickened by Key and National! Their arrogance defies belief!! Frank

*The Maoris think they own N.Z. They don't. It's all of ours. Carolyn

*They belong to all New Zealanders, if they do NOT, then just what were the Springbok Riots all about?
This country’s politicians are consumed with the ultimate desire to ethnically prostitute themselves in order to gain kudos from the United Nations.
Internally they are frightened out of their tiny minds of an uprising which has racial overtones. This would embarrass them, and cause an upheaval of a magnitude never seen before in New Zealand since the Maori Wars. Whose side then would the United Nations support; recent events overseas indicate that those in Rebellion against the State seem to receive United Nations support! (ie Egypt, Libya & Syria)
So sadly our Politicians continue give away the country, primary to retain power, and in the forlorn hope that Maori will be satisfied, which of course they never will be. The Saxons under Elthelred found out that to their cost in 900 AD., when Blackmail in the form of a Danegeld, ended in a Danish dynasty.
It has not yet reached the point of no return, although Mr Jackson and others of his ilk seem to think that it has. Fortunately for him sedition is no longer a crime, and similar utterances from radical activists are deemed non racial. (At least from their viewpoint).
Finally when will we the people make a stand and say “Enough is enough”? Brian

*Without limitation for any reason. Bill

*Will the greed of the Maori heirachy ever cease. And Key and Co. are just a bunch of deceitful bastards who will be thrown out of office next time. How dare they give to a racist group that which belongs to all NZers. Problem is the ones who will be affected (now the 20-40 age group) appear to be disinterested. Carolyn

*This will benefit all New Zealanders and Maori can benefit. John

*There can only be one owner/trustee of beach and territorial waters: The Crown. Gerhard

*The maori iwi gangsters should be prosecuted for racism. John

*This whole business proves (if it needed proving) that we can't trust our politicians to properly represent us.
I applaud the efforts of all those promoting the CIR but I wonder, assuming a referendum is held, whether the government will take any notice of it.
We urgently need a system of Direct Democracy similar to that enjoyed by Swiss citizens.
Why is it concerned citizens like ourselves always seem to be attempting to fend off the idiot decisions made by politicians who seem to have no regard for the wishes of the people,
Centuries ago there was a religious Reformation in Europe.
We need a political reformation in New Zealand! Denis

*Retained by the Crown for the use of EVERY New Zealand resident not just a Racially select minority. Samuel

*Outrageous to think of any such areas being 'out of bounds'! Annie

*Crown ownership can be the only way that is fair to everyone in NZ. The present act favours one ethnic group and that cannot be right. Martin

*There is no other way. Peter

*Our very survival - economically and defensively - depends on total control of our shoreline. Kenneth

*Technically, No, as it should be owned by all NZ's, but seeing as the Crown is meant to represent all NZ's (I wonder?) then it becomes a "YES". Gavin

*For all who live in NZ. Peter

Quote:
*Absolutely! National should never have given in to the Maori Party and changed the foreshore and seabed law in the first place. They sold out. The Marine Law should be repealed and the old law reinstated. It's a scandal what happened. John

*Any other "owner" is ludicrous in the extreme. The outcome of foreshore settlements will have consequences that will make the Crafer farms look like a kindergarten tea party. Ray

*When the public hear about what has happened to the coast they are outraged. The problem is that not enough of the public are aware. I sure hope the ad works! Julie

*The coast belongs in Crown ownership - it is as simple as that. The government had no right to change it without holding a nation-wide referendum. It is OUR coast - we should have been the ones to decide what happens to it. And if we said NO CHANGE, that should have been the end of it. Jim

*The greed of iwi knows no bounds. The government should have kept their ambitions for public assets in check. Look what's happening with Treaty settlements as well - they are becoming more and more generous. Yet the country can't afford it. The foreshore and seabed belongs to all New Zealander, not just Maori. Phil
