This week's poll asks:

Should tribal corporations get any special treatment regarding the sale of shares in Mighty River Power?

Quote:
*No, NO, no!!! IF we could prosecute our politicians for being racists and for treason then the answer would be up to how brave a foolish politician felt. BUT it should always be NO. Peter

*Certainly not. But it is a pretty sure bet that they will. Isobel

*New Zealanders own the water not the Maori Tribes. Our Governments of today and past ones have lost the commonsense. We are now run by gutless "politicians' that are making us all racists. Time to get a governing power to stop all this crap; we are ONE not a country of Separatism. Lance

*The public put them there, to the public they belong. Did Maoris discover electricty? George

*Only thise born in New Zealand are true New Zealanders. Our ancestors including Maori were all immigrants. It is high time we had a Government to recognize that. Mary

*I am afraid polititions will sell their souls to stay in power. Desmond

*Because there is no real basis for them to be favoured over anyone else in NZ. Ivan

*For too long the Tribal leaders have taken the money and the trickle down has been hard to see. Charles

*The waterways. foreshore, & seabed are the property of all NZ'rs, we are all immigrants & citizens. Wayne

*Of course not. They are keeping the country poor now and have been paid millions for all their greivances now. Joan

*No one own the water as it is evaporated off the whole face of the earth blown by the the winds and falls where ever across the surface of the earth. To own the water rights you would have to own the sun first have to. Allen

*NO NO NO - maybe give back what they have lied their way to get!! Tony

*This greed should be stopped once and for all before we have social war. David

*Absolutely not. This farce about them owning the water must stop now. Colin

*What next will Maori demand? Everything & anything that may be worth money!! Time the plug was pulled on a 160+ year old treaty - All treaties become obsolete, for example - The Treaty of Versailles WW1. Richard

*When are we stopping this apartheid treatment, and go back to "one-law-for all-new-zealanders?? Guus

*One of the first pieces of Apartheid Legislation in South Africa was for seperate park benches. New Zealand is already a lot further than that down the Apartheid road which NZ demonstrated so strongly against in 1981. How things change. Ray

*Like hell. What defines a Maori. Lionel

*Thieving scum. Christopher

*As all that Maori use in everyday life comes from a non maori culture than should be paying a fee for use of those things =cars, power, clothes, buildings, (other than teetree huts) processed food etc,etc..What do they use that is Maori, who showed them how record things by writing ???? Warwick

*If they got special treatment eg. ownership would they then be responsible for any water caused damage. Peter

*I now know one maori word; "iwi" means 'mafia'! Derejk

*Over my dead body! Simon

*The Maori elite is getting far too much already, based on race-based decisions. Many New Zealanders protested in 1981 against apartheid in another country - now we're fast heading down that track, with help from our government. It would have been good if the Maori Party had left the government, but they knwlo they're on to something too good to let go. We are not two peoples, one of which is favloured because of its skin colour and being able to reinterpret the Treaty to say what they want it to say. Laurence

*Hey everyone, I know a maori word! "iwi" means 'mafia'! Gordon

*Every applicant should be treated equally as to no. of shares and should pay the same price. John

Elizabeth Rata in her brilliant essay is correct in identifying the fundamentals of how all this retribalisation commitment ever eventuated; in fact just business corporations or as David Round vividly put it 'this colossal programme of confidence men'.

Her conclusion of a return to tribalism and the resultant damage to our democratic ways of organising our society are indeed alarming.

There needs to be the highest resistance to the entrenchment of these racial values or New Zealand as one nation will be lost forever.

Quote:
*How maori people can make these claims and keep straight face is beyond me. Con artists would be the best description. Greedy maoris should have no special rights to anything in this country. Those poor disadvantaged maoris, of which no-one can claim full blood, are just to damn lazy to just get on with it and make their own way, like every other New Zealander is doing. All the disadvantage that maoris claim to be victims of, they have brought on themselves. Lord knows they have been given absolutely everything to help them become "equals". I feel so sorry for them, they are so pathetic. Neil

*The entire claims 'industry' has to be shut down and told "no more". This is crippling the country. When are we going to get a politician standing up for the majority on NZers and sayin "NO" ? The entire claim of "entitlement" is predicated on the myth that they were the first people to settle in NZ. This myth also needs to be dealt with and the true history of NZ revealed. Bruce

*We are one people according to the original understanding of The Treaty, before the revisionists got busy! William

*Have now become totally opposed to separist policies in favour of ever-increasing greedy, greedy, Maori. We must be one people with equal opportunities. Jan

*Let's get real in this time of economic crisis. Catherine

*Every person who pays Taxes should be horrified at the idea. Laurel

*If they did get special treatment then it would be racist. Laurie

*Absolutely not. We should be one country, one people. Brian

*Why? If Maori want shares then they should buy them as everyone else does. Key needs to get a backbone and stand up to these Blackmailers. Carolyn

*But the smiling one will give them freebys. Along with our venerable attorney General who will give this country away to the socalled "indigenous" peoples of Aotearoa. Sam

*It is time to stand firm against Maori greed. We are one people. Robert

*Definitely NO! Enough of this separate special treatment for all those that call themselves Maori. New Zealanders together will survive divided we will fall. Too many greedy people/nations want doninance over our fertile Islands. This is already happening through poor legislation (sieves) manipulated over many years. This has to STOP. Maureen

*Special rights for a racial group = Racism!! Mark

*Here we go again - NO NO NO - to say we are becoming two separate peoples is incorrect - WE ARE TWO SEPARATE PEOPLES ALREADY - we non-Maori are treated totally and separately and it will only get worse, if that is possible given the current circumstances..unfortunately the high percentage of new immigrants mean that they are not fully aware of the situation that has developed over the years and given the new life appear to not want to do or say anything adverse to the situation...everyone else become knows that there is little the rest can do so just put up with it - sadly indeed the latest article is absolutely true...and the only way to combat this is, like many others, escapte to Australia where at least everyone is treated as Australians who are patritic and believe in its one-Nation. Audrey

*Definitely not, all the infrastucture we have in NZ was developed & engineered using European expertise. Maori working on the projects were mainly in labouring roles. Ian

*Certainly Not....but reality and power will overcome any apartheid problems. After all the apathetic public of New Zealand, concentrated as it is, upon the “Games” the outcome of Super Rugby, sport in general, and whether cigarette packages carry logos, are more important issues than the elitist actions of a government scared witless by the spectre of a racist label.
Are the “Water Rights” really laid to rest? Or what more of our freedoms have been given away in exchange for a Maori “Yes”? This albatross around our necks is giving forth a peculiar odour.....a disintegration that has all the hallmarks of revolution. Brian

*It should be one nation, one people, one law. Fabian socialism in its many guises has surely taken hold of this nation. It will all end badly if it is not reversed. Donald

*N.Z. Bill of Rights states: 'No person should enjoy a privileged position by virtue of their RACE, ANCESTRY, or wealth.' John

*ALL that is happening re Maori will eventually lead to a 'Zimbabwe' situation. Not fanciful! David

*It just gets worse. John Key just hands out whatever they want. It's just a pity he didn't get rid of them last week. Its never going to stop until we revert back to a third world island nation.
I cannot believe how much I'm starting to actually feel hatred towards this Maori party and these grabbing Maori. Plus Govts that continually give to them. I know I have to leave NZ as its actually eating into me in that I wish someone would start protesting anti all this nonsense so I could join them. It won't stop until we have a civil war. I think it will happen and it's not far away. Tariana Turia and the green lunatics make me sick.
I am listening to Parliament in the news. They are all trying to speak Maori and it sounds like a meeting f retards. Chris

*This nonsense has been escalating since Labour under Kirk took claims to the Waitangi Tribunal back to 1840. When will NZ voters see the danger? Irvine

*They have the wealth given to them by successive governments to purchase their seperate 10% maximum holdings like any other New Zealander or organisation. John

*Pay for them like we will. Max

*I am so sick of these separatists. Martin

*I am like many fed up with 15% of the population being given in to continually.
They have reeeived millions yet still want the rest of us to pay them the welfare benfits, use our Drs, hospitals etc most schools (other than those that are totally Maori,) and as for speaking Maori it is a dead language and there is not every word available in Maori. The more I have it pushed down my throat and in the newspapers the more I refuse. New Zealand is an English speaking Country. On the radio the other day I heard one of the 15% telling those listening that Overseas most speak 3 languages so all in NZ should also speak Maori --what for> Overseas English is taught as most Countries know English is No 1 priority. I also wonder in the areas where only Maori is learnt what they are goiung to do for a job later on or oh I forgot they will stay on the New Zealanders Welfare, those of us that have paid taxes rates etc many Maoris don't pay these so once agan we are carrying the 15%. MARYLIN

*We are all New Zealanders and that is all there is to it. Anyone who doesn’t like that fact, should leave. Murray

*Sick of this Racial Division the Maori's are creating. No one deserves the rights they are claiming. Will probably leave NZ because of it & my family is now in it's 7th generation in NZ. Simon

*All government property belongs to all taxpaying New Zealanders, not those who have only paid a small share of total taxes collected during new zealands history. Phil

*While I do not subscribe to the view that winning an election is a mandate to do anything discussed during a campaign, nevertheless any commercial proposition should be conducted in a purely commercial manner - giving away value with nothing in exchange is not commercial. Also, water is not being sold. As far as I know, power stations do not consume or export any water - they convert the potential energy stored in an elevated water source into electrical energy through a mechanical process. every litre of water passing through ends up back in the river. If ancient Maori were on to this, then they missed out on a great business opportunity. Maybe Thomas Edison stole their secret... Wayne

*This division of the population has to be halted. Ian

*It is clearly another Maori rort to get money out of the government and taxpayers AGAIN!!! Jane

*It is time the treaty should be put to rest and we need a government with the blls to do it. John

*Time all Maori elitests were finished with. A big fat NO to everything from this point forward. Anything not settled - too late. Yesterday was the finish. Graeme

*I suggest also that iwi claim ownership of the sunlight that reaches us. Fred

*Like all New Zealanders they should be on the same level playing field. Ian

*Another RACIST move. Consider some countries that have gone this route. South Africa, Serbia/Croatia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria. Would you want to live in these places? Peter

*NO, NO, NO. When will this greed stop? We are all one and should be pulling together for the betterment of New Zealand and not being caught up in this divisive ploy. Vivienne

*We have a very limited and troubled future if this continues. Roger

*Definitely not! Members of such organisations are no different from anyone else and therefore do not merit preferential treatment or privileges. Ron

*It's all been said but who is listening? Marie

*This is a no brainer, and I do not have the time to waste explaining why! Chris

*We are getting heartily sick of coniving maori and there give me, give me pleadings. David

*We should be all New Zealander'. Soon they will be wanting separate Passports. Richard

*There is absolutley no reason for any maori to get any special treatment be it shares or anything else. Noela

*Another public exhibition of greed by a few. Delia

*They are already sucking the country dry, but no doubt Key will give in. Laurie

*Emphatically "NO" - how greedy can they be?? Eric

*Because we are all one, we are New Zealanders. Darryl

*We are all New Zealanders...! John

*How absolutely ridiculous to think that certain people in this country have more rights then others, we should be all equal and all have the same rights, there are no people here that are more special then others only more greedy. Gail

*It's ludicrous, no one owns the water! Gerhard

*We are all one people and should be treated equally. Colin

*Absolutely not. If Key wilts on this then it is the begining of the end for New Zealand. Ronmac

*What happened to the proud "all men are created equal" which is the basis of democracy. We have lived with this Maori elite racism for long enough. Ernie

*Tell the maoris to piss off they dont own the f#@^&*g water. Graham

*No. They are the racists for demanding special privileges. A letter in the Press newspaper - "I'm a tribal member. Ngai Tahu, can I have some crumbs please?" says it all - the payouts are not reaching the man in the street. What are they doing with payout money? Sheila

*Maori had no particular role in establishing any of the state assets that are likely to be partially sold, so therefore have no legitimate claim for special consideration. Terry

*When will we get a Govt that will put the treaty of waitangi back where it belongs - in a museum, and abolish Maoridom in favour of "New Zealander"? Maurice

*For a start, the Maori were NOT the first to people New Zealand. The Maori killed and ate the males and mated with the females. There are no true bred maori and haven't been for a very long time. Rick

*Your article "Are we one or not" is beautifully summed up - well done! Jocelyn

*Enough is enough. No more special treatment. Gary

*If i have "NO"then any comment that i make will be non and void don't you think? Lawrence

*The current presure to give maori preference is destroying thier relationship with the othe 85% NZ people, maori are killing their own interests by making ludicrous demands on the rest of us,,,they must learn first how to look after their children, clearly they just dont care about their young. Christopher

*Maori want apartheid..so give it too them..coupled with no more tax payers money and no more favours. Roy

*Our country is headed for disaster due to the racists demands of maori and the weakness of the Key government. Colin

*We are all New Zealanders, no special treatment for any group. Ingrid

*Sadly NZ is rushing head long in a civil war. Rick

*They can take their chances like everyone else! David

*NO,NO,NO,NO! How many times do we have to say No to get anyone to listen. We seem to be living in a country that more appropriately be called "NZ Mickey Mouse". Paul

*What about the Irish decendents among us! It must be their turn surely. Kerry

*Is it not time we are to be acknowledged as New Zealanders regardless of ethnicity?! Jill

*You have said it all Muriel. I wholeheartedly agree with your points. Chris

*As you say we should be one people. Gareth

*Most definitely NOT, all New Zealand citizens who have the desire to buy shares should be treated equally. Sonya

*No and No one thousand times. Peter

*We err to think that it is really the "tribal elite" who are running this scam on us. As with Agenda 21, its the UN and their globalist masters treating us again as their personal "Petri dish" for socialist experimentation that are the root of the evil. Sadly, there is absolutely nothing we can do to stop this inexorable slide into UN-sponsored tribal apartheid. The globalists have willed it, thus it will happen. On a different note, it is worth calling out in plain English the real name for the 'Taniwhas' who would exercise control over NZers: demons. That's right - the Maori "spiritualism" is just Satanism re-packaged, and all the "spirits" they revere and worship are nothing more than fallen angels and their demonic brethren. So what we are really saying when NZ cows before the threat of Taniwha wrath, is that our country is now subject to direct demonic control and manipulation - out in the open, with a thin veil. I say, lift the veil and confront the threat, and drive it from our shores. We might be pleasantly surprised at how much the "mana" of the tribal elite is reduced, and the UN plans stalled, as a result of hitting their REAL power base where it hurts: in the spiritual gonads... :-} Peter

*We have had enough of all this tribal rip off. Q. Why is the government so weak? A they want there Vote. Stuart

*Why no, because it is rascist rubbish. Bryon

Quote:
*Maori weren't the 1st people here, should have no special rights. Bill

*Part-horis should not have special treatment regarding ANYTHING in NZ. Barry

*What about the "Maori" rank & file who keep missing out on treaty monies? The "corporations" should first evenly distribute their settlements to them and then everyone will have the same opportunity to purchase shares in what "WE" already own. Phil

*Of course bloody not. I now despise these people who aint indigenous and intimidate weak politicians who have started a snowball effect that is not Democracy. David

*They should't have special rights to anything. Glen

*Now would be a good time to abolish the privileged tax rate 0f 20% enjoyed by maori corporations and trusts. Frank

*What to say? It is just wrong. Its raining here today at my place. Is this rain water mine? Can I stop others from using it? It will eventually get into a river. Then Maori own it? Again NO!!! Gerry

*The way these insolent Maori claimes are developing are truly disturbing. If NZ landers in general do not start to become more radical themselfes ( ie ignoring so called PC and call a spade a spade ) and refuse to accept this artificial construct called Treaty of Waitangi as a base for national politics) we will be doomed to become parias in our own country I believe that the true reson that so many good people leve this country is not only better incomes in Australia but a lot of people realize where things are heading and this is a good reason to leave . This trend will become more extreme when Maoris achieve even more negative influence in NZ politics and they will not abstain from turning against everybody who is not willing to go along (That lot are true fascists indeed). Michael

*We need to move away from being an aparthied country and have everyone the same, forget about a silly old document that costs us far too much to retain. Bob

*Well overdue for a political party which has getting rid of this sort of crap as it's core objective. John

*For exactly the same reasons as Elizabeth Rata so clearly outlined. Mel

*The greedy racist maori mafia just can't stop with their drive to turn NZ into an apartheid. Our gutless spineless politicians are traitors to most kiwis because they are incapable of saying 'No' to all these demands which are NOT in that good-for-nothing treaty. Derejk

*Certainly not! They have not more right to alloted potential shares than the rest of us. Sarah

*No more than anyone else and certainly no special deals for Maori alone. I have a gloomy feeling about this whole situation, like a impending doom and I'm helpless to do anything about it. Bill

*Until we stop this endless pandering to the endless greed of the elite in Maori society, fuelled by greedy lawyers and university "intellectuals" New Zealand is going to continue its slide into racial division. I am appalled at the insidious ways in which this is being done. At the spineless leadership in Government. In the politically motivated attitude of Len Brown in pandering to his South and West Auckland electorates at the expense of the rest of the city.
Do we learn nothing from history? Did all those great countries in Africa get destroyed by the transfer of power to the ill equipped indigenous population, for nothing? Does Zimbabwe mean nothing? Wake up New Zealand, you are destroying yourselves! Hugh

*However, a combination of a grasping maori "elite", a majority of the media and politicians who believe that the part-maori are superior, and an apathetic public will ensure that the tribal corporations will get special treatment. John

*We are all equal. Sonia

*Let them buy shares like any other New Zealand resident can buy out of their personal funds but for the tribal corporations they are able to utilise the gifts made to them by the gullible liberal politicians who have made substantial treaty settlement funding for them. Neil

*They have no more rights than any other NEW ZEALANDER not just the supposed "indegenious" people. Con

*One NZ, one people. Through taxes we all shared the cost of setting up these companies, and comparatively, Maori paid the lesser share of those taxes. Jacoba

*Present Government had no mandate to hand over NZ resources to greedy Maori. It's time for New Zealanders to stand up and say ENOUGH!! Linda

*Why should we buy shares in power companies (we already own) if Maury are going to get them for nothing. Get real!!! Teunis

*NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, and NO. Vern

*Really impressed with the huge turnout protesting National policy, from a city of 1.5M we got a massive 80 (ish) people on Sunday, (overheard Sunday morning – “what are we doing today dear” “ oh let’s go to the protest” “but it’s raining” “OK, go get a DVD”) not that Saturday was much better when you take away the Bradford loonies, sort of shoots down the lefty media commentators forever bleating on that 80% of Kiwi’s are against National policy. John

*They can get shares the same way as every other corporation. AFTER THE PEOPLE OF NEW ZEALAND. Nigel

*It musn't be forgotten that Maori trusts I believe get a special TAX rate of 19%. Grant

*I am an Indigenous New Zealand European that demands the same rights for myself and my children, as every other New Zealand Citizen. Mark

*No one owns the Water, it is a natural resource that all NZ's can enjoy without expecting compensation. Barbara

*Re indigenous. I've contacted UN regarding their definition and been informed they have none and it is up to each individual whether they identify as indigenous so any argument Maori descendants are MORE indigenous has no basis even with the UN. G

*Unfortunately we are preaching to the converted. Those who subscribe to this already have commonsense views. Adrian

*If and ever "Maori" can produce intelligent and believable evidence from their own sources and at their own expense, they may be in a position to lodge a claim. Duncan

*New Zealand a new Fiji in the making. Matt

*We are all New Zealanders. Some have been here a little longer than others. That is the only difference. Sandra

*If part maori get away with claiming water rights, What next?.. Be assured one day some day real New Zealanders will rise up and say enough is enough. Bob

*They should receive special treatment in direct ratio to the number of dams they designed, paid for and privately constructed in earlier years. Peter

*As a public utility owned by the public of NZ,it should NOT BE SOLD. John

*Not at all! Those who buy power off them should be the beneficiaries if any! Terry

*The simple answer is "No". This govt has bent over backwards to placate the iwi for the wrongs they consider the Pakeha has done. What a load of crap! If it wasn't for the white man, from whalers on the Maori wold still be little better than a stone age race. Anyway were arte all boat people, so we should be on an even footing. Alan

*WE are all New Zealanders, undivided, and should be treated equally or we will fail our country and our children! Russell

*If we are one people - we must be treated equally as one people. This loathsome attempt by Maori to secure shares for nothing is simply, opportunistic blackmail. Jim

*Absolutely not - they should be treated in the same way as anyone else. Their tactics are rent seeking of the worst kind and it all shows that all they are concerned about is greed and self interest. Ken

*No - government should never give in to blackmail. Peter

*Its a resource for all new zealand to enjoy. Willy

*Tribes have really shown that all they care about is self interest, not the good of the country. Governments should not pander to brownmail. Sue

*The public have had a guts full of these sorts of tactics. The problem is that the politicians fall over backwards to pander to tribal leaders. In this case, while John Key is talking tough to the public, he is still indicating he will fall over backwards to keep his coalition partner happy. It is this that makes me sick! Michael

*The problem is that successive governments give in to the blackmail and so they keep coming back for more. It is long past time for a firm NO! It is also long past time to stop the special treatment. Jennifer
