Excellent newsletter Muriel Newman.

H. L. Mencken also said ' The men the American public admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest the most violently are those who try to tell them the truth.' B. Obama & the U.N. would rate as most daring liars.

We will lose the West unless we can restore the use of reason to pre-eminence in our institutions of what was once learning_

This week's poll asks:

Do you believe activists overstate the environmental threat in New Zealand?

Quote:
*Of course they do, it's their agenda. Ian

*Scaremongering is their main tool to raise cash to support their leaders and their agenda. Aunty Podes

*Due in the main to the un and the green party. Col

*They work on unfounded data to put fear into the public. Noela

*They are like King Canute.Except preventing progress instead of the tide. Ian

*The media have much input in this panic to make this threat seem so real. Jane

*I believe that without them, the greed and criminal misuse of land and sea resources would spiral out of control. Already we have seen gross mismanagement of the 'Rena' aftermath and Pike River Mine which has cost lives and hit taxpayers' pockets. Deep sea drilling will be no different with the idiots we currently have in charge. Kenneth

*In fact there isn't one which is not perfectly manageable by rational thinking - not throwing hissy fits and taking suicidal measures such as the melon heads advocate. Auntie Podes

*BUT - while the world population may now be in decline, it is the "undesirable" ones which are breeding fast while western cultures - the more rational and industrial ones - are the ones who are in decline. (Yes - I can hear the screeches of "elitism" already!) Auntie Podes

*They have their own agenda based on their biased and misguided world view. Ivan

Quote:
*Yes, very much so! I have long been concerned that newspapers, TV, and other sources of public information have failed to draw attention to this. Rob

*Definitely - it is all done for control and commercialism. Judith

*Bleeding hearts are easily persuaded. Think ! David

*It is inappropriate for New Zealand learning institutions to be party to UN agendas based on fictional opinion. So who are running the learning institutions and what sort of bribes are they being plied with. Smart thinking people don't believe the propoganda that comes out of the UN. Neil

*Too much "Green Influence". Stuart

*Yes, of course. There is no threat to the environment in New Zealand. Our cattle do not present an environmental hazard as the boffins would have us believe. Does anyone ever give any thought to how the Serenghetti Plains cope with all those belching wildebeests or the Texas Prairie (pre european times) coped with all those teeming millions of bison? All birping their way through thousands of acres of grasslands and savanah! With less than 3% of NZ under development, to suggest that we are somehow overwhelming the environment is absurd and ... just a note to all the farmers who have signed up for the NAIT Scheme, it's not about disease control, it's about the Emissions Trading Scheme. Let's hope the ETS gets the heave ho before all the cockies get lumbered. Dianna

*Sadly our children are being indoctrinated in schools and elsewhere . Therefore at 18 they will vote Green. Catherine

*I congratulate Muriel Newman on the clarity of her article. I consider that left wingers led by Al Gore) have conned our Govt to believe that global warming is a massive threat to our existence. Ian

*Environmental risk is very much overstated - its much easier to steal from confused or concerned taxpayers. Lech

*If the Greens believed in their own propaganda they would be walking everywhere and not be using fossil fuels etc George

*They even lay it all out in chapter and verse in Agenda 21, trusting that the everyday citizen will be too busy earning his daily bread to notice. The activist left however has their blueprint laid out for them in Agenda 21 documents as well as global governance documentation buried in the various UN sponsored agreements that are signed by unelected bureaucrats and never see a parliamentary committee let alone the floor of the Debating Chamber. Peter

*Being careful is one thing; but leaving our wealth in the ground while paying exorbitant fees to someone else overseas - who are doing what we are afraid to do - is ridiculous. David

*There is a middle way to every argument. Werner

*The UN has a agenda to control the world. Desmond

*Almost by definition an activist overstates his/her case,is selective in presenting evidence and denegrating contrary views and the motives of those who promote them. Peter

*There is no threat, just the fear or reluctance to adapt tochanging circumstances, just as all animals have done over the ages. Brian

*Yes, simply scaremongering to back up their own agendas. Stan

*If they don't they have no reason to exist, just like unions who continue to seek greater benefits for their members. If there are no more benefits to be had there is no reason or purpose to have a union and accompanying executive staff and be assured the latter are not going to do themselves out of a job! Hence the need to be more active and more radical. Graeme

*They sure do, they do not want to see economic growth or productive growth or employemnt in any form they do not get it. Geoff

*Only problem is unless something is exagerated it gets ignored. The public has become immune to the mundane it now has to be massive before we even wake up. Richard

*The biggest advantage that all animals have on this earth is adaptability and mankind must adapt to the chaning evironment as he has always done and as a higher being also has the duty to protect species lower down the food chain. Coralee

*What environmental threat? Norman

*Most people including activists do not realise just how delicate things are. Mike

*Insidious creeping UN.BS. Howard

This week's poll asks:

Quote:
*Activists deliberately overstate the environmental threat because they have organised themselves to make money from the situation. The major threat to New Zealand is that so many of our population will not drag themselves away from sport to accept the danger that the situation presents to us. Ernest

*The earths climate change is a cycle caused by continual variations in its orbit around the sun. This is caused by other planets orbiting and the sun in its cycles. Rick

*It is quite legitimate for the term "Sustainable Development" to be used by the private sector. It is absolutely intolerable to hear it being used by rates-funded local councils, tax-funded governments,a potential one-world government such as the United Nations. What they do have is taken by force and they must be limited constitutionally. In principle, when those who produce wealth in this world are told what to do by those who do not then we are well on the way to tyranny and slavery by unelected bureaucrats. Nominal ownership of private property without the owner's absolute control is fascism ! DONRO

*Anthropogenic effects cannot compete with volcanoes and earthquakes in modifying the environment! Ken

*Globle warming is cyclic, the earth has allways heated and cooled . they used to grase cattle in greenland , cant any more , covered in ice. the way the weather has been this winter , i wish globle warming would hurry up because christe it has been cold!! Muray

*More publicity should be given to the past failled predictions of the climate change protagonists. Ron

*World wide scientific opinion now generally refutes the climate change theory as promoted by greedy and unscrupulous scientists , endeavouring to convince their political masters that the sky is going to fall on our heads. Malcolm

*Of course they do . The gullible then get on board and so the pressure goes on governrment to do something so we end up with unnecessary ETs's and the like which makes everyone suffer to satify the whims of the so called experts Colin

*I think the word "overstate" is in itself grossly understated! What we are seeing, with the various paradigm shifts foisted on us by the globalists & their UN lapdogs, is the mid-game push in an all-out stampede towards global governance. That a small group of men (and possibly a few women) could dictate the direction of the whole planet seems the stuff of fantasy at first. But it takes little more than a willingness to conscience the unthinkable, and an ability to step back to view the canvas of life from a little further away, to be able to see how "easy" it is for those with power, authority, money and determination to actually be in a position to achieve the wide array of machinations required to control the whole planet. Of course a pre-requisite for "getting away" with domination of an entire planet is creating a world-wide situation whereby the bulk of the populace no longer has the ability to think critically, is brow-beaten into silence with slurs and stereotyping (as with Nazi Germany, Stalin's Russia, Mao's China etc etc), and above all the fostering of a mental haze that makes the divination of truth by all but "the chosen" neigh impossible, hidden as it is within layers of whispers, conspiracy theories and half-truths. Welcome to earth, 2012. Hold onto your seats, as you "ain't seen anything yet". The next few years are going to be a descent into a world of deceit, corruption, poverty and control the likes of which would make George Orwell's hair stand on end. Unless WE fight back. The time for revolution is NOW, while we still CAN. How much better the world would be had the German people said NO. We are as complicit as they, but in a horror far beyond Hitler and far more insidious, as we sit contentedly with our i-Toys. Widescreen TVs and Lotto... Peter

*Activists-Socialists mostly the same thing! Wayne

*Given the weight of scientific evidence for climate change, those who would deny it are exhibiting a high level of willful ignorance. Your editorial misses the point: the pathetic propaganda about climate change is that being pushed by the denial lobby. Alex

*Muriel, you need to start a new Political Party, and call it the NBS Party. To help those who can't interpret, the first word is NO. Max

*The biggest threat to the environment is China burning coal for energy and western consumers blithely buying everythingthat's made there. John

*Inevitably the activists are running their own agenda which is anti business, anti democracy and anti freedom of choice. The media (and thus a majority of the public) follow along like sheep! Trevor

*One day this will prove to be perhaps the greatest scam of the 21st Century. Selwyn

*If activists were serious they would live without the advantages of modern society such as electricity, fossil fuel etc. Bill

*Politics first, Scientific facts ignored. Christopher

I agree JamesB that activists are dangerous.

The environmental movememt has been captured by radical socialists who want to destroy economic growth and progress by threatening that anything humans do will destroy the planet.

This argument is compelling to those who don't know any better. That's why these people are so dangerous.

Yes, vastly overstated. This is pretty much the definition of the "activist" in any sphere. There are many matters of concern in the world's environment that humanity needs to take heed of - pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction, species extinction, water table depletion, land salination, and others. CO2 is a red herring which diverts attention away from the real issues. People get confused by the catastrophic global warming rhetoric and switch off. They switch to buying the "eco" brand of toilet paper, drive a smaller car, and figure they have "done their bit". The shrill panic of the activists is a real harm to the debate, and a real harm to their own cause - if their cause really is the environment. (It raises suspicion that the real cause might be more political than environmental.)

Quote:
*Like all things mortal the Universities shall have their seasons of growth, of grandeur, of decline. Universities have unfortunately fallen from bastions of Investigation. of higher learning and inspired teaching, they have become vessels of crude ideological recruitment and dogma propaganda rising. Do the brain dead control the asylum, in a word, yes and they are propagating the Marxist notion of scarcity fear and resentment. They preach food scarcity but nearly none produce food and most all fail to recognise the immanent dangers of GM food consumption, perhaps the reality of early cancer will teach them more. They preach coal, oil and gas shutdown but fail to explain how the next generation will heat, transport, produce and live - as they scramble to find a parking space for their own car, their symbol of youthful independence. They preach climate Change in the midst of a decade long cold spell and earnestly declare tidal rise as they wet their feet in less than 1mm of tide rise this year. They preach carbon credits with no idea how the international transfer of wealth will impoverish them and their children´s children despite 200 hundred years of national pioneer infrastructure consolidation. They talk of carbon dioxide as if it were a continuous C4 explosion, when in fact it is but less than 3/100ths of one percent of our air, so nearly inert for all practical purposes that only the trees can benefit of it. Activists, these are the drums of our time, large noisy cacophonous boomings of ignorance. These are the secular products of our University system. Rebel without a cause. Activist are more like an Agenda without an intellect. Is our University system dead, the public diagnosis is that the cancer of self interest and extreme politics is at best terminal. No need of transfusion the patient can be left to die. Vern

*In the 1960`s population was the big cry and how the world could produce enough food to sustain the increasing popultion. We now know that was a load of rubbish. The world can produce more food than the population can consume. Frank

*These are those who cry "Wolf!" Fightened of everything, and would condemn in NZ alone many thousands of poor families to unbearably cold, unheated, winters, and trudging miles and miles instead of having transport; they would send our society back into the dark ages. There should be a register of all their names and addresses. L

*Yes. The Mother of them all being "The United Nations" which has spawned Greenpeace, and the many various Committees. Their long tentacles reaching into every country, into every politician's mindset. Freedom which we took for granted since World War 2, is being whittled away piece by piece. Imagine what our forefathers would have made of a MMP ""Democratic"" electoral system; which only allows us to cast a vote for just over 50% of our elected parliamentarians?.
Yes, we have never had it so good, nor has our populace ever been so apathetic over its fate. Its time to wake up and take back our country. Brian

*Frighteningly the modus operandi of the Papacy of population control through misinformation and scare mongoring has shifted to the UN and the Holy Grail is the "environment and climate change". Thanks to NZCPR and others for helping to expose this. The new Reformation is to resist this new tranche of religious dogma threatening the world. Willy

*And the alarmists are at it again with their exagerated bleating about the "worse than predicted" melting of the polar ice caps. Glyn

*Absolutely! Mark

*These scaremongers totally use these tactics for there own purpose for a free ride on monies from goverments they have hoodwinked by overstating concerns by faulty information. David

*Because they have to justify their existence somehow. Grahame

*Of course they do! But with the support of most of the media and politicians the rest of us don't get much of a look in. John

*Green peace ho hum ... activists/protesters. ho hum... rent a mob, anti progress... same ol same ol. Do profesional protesters have a day job? Bob

*Activists of all types do this in a major way. A prime example is the distortion of NZ's history; however the cover up of the truth has been ably supported by Governments of each and every colour, Labour, National and other parties. Bruce

Quote:
*Absolutely. But how to stop this nonsense? Elvin

*They never real facts to back up their claims. Gerard

*Using resources efficiently is sound economics. Sustainability is nonsense. At the very least, it must apply to the foreseeable future. For gas, this is about 5years. Bryan

*Why are they called "activists", when most of 'em are on the dole??? John

*Have always thought this was the case, especeally all the the reactions when we have eathquakes, floods etc, they all occur naturally. Robert

*As I said to the expensively dressed, unhealthily pale looking, activists who accosted me in the supermarket some time ago, "I have heard of Greenpeace and I would not spit on them if they were on fire". Kerry

*We often hear statements like 'the worst flooding since (50- 100 yrs earlier)'. Did we have global warming back then? More people are living on low lying river flood plains or on steep hillsides, what do they expect when rains? Yes I do fear for our once clean rivers but climate change by humans is a step too far. Tim

*Totally agree with activists overstating threats, they are however ably assisted by weak media who jump on any bad news story regardless of origin or factuality (and who rarely, if ever, correct mistakes when they are made) Fighting rabid U.N. driven greenieism is our greatest challenge. I disagree with Crichton on the threat world population poses. John

*Here is a definitive quote that says it all: "And when memory failed and written records were falsified—when that happened, the claim of the Party to have improved the conditions of human life had got to be accepted, because there did not exist, and never again could exist, any standard against which it could be tested. Keith

*They blame every thing on so culled global worming no doubt they will blame the resent erruptions on global warming. John

*Activism 101, always state the worst possible scenario. 102, if it doesn't look bad enough, lie about how bad it could get. 103, .....................I am sure you have all got the idea. Edwin

*For probably two generations now our school children have been manipulated to go with what Govt and activists want not the truth but lies so we are coming to a time when we will have a population that is going along with what the UN wants for there world I fear for our younger generations of how mind manipulated they are so one world Govt will be easy to implement. Russell

*Where would we be today if the extinction of the dinosaurs had not occured. To meddle in global outcomes without understanding what is involved is dangerous. Bernie

*Even the Bible teaches capitalism, with giving and servanthood (see The Parable of the Talents). Jane

*There is no question that they do, particularly the Green Party who wish to destroy our farming industry and, with it, our economy inorder to advnce their Marxist agenda. I wish John key would show some courage and dispense with all of the garbage, ETS etc. which listening to the various wackos in our society!! Jim

*They also ignore factual science, and are hypocrites in the way they live their lives. Hilary

*By a mile. John

*Muriel, I have to say you really are the most fantastic writer! Our perspective of life is so battered and distorted by lobbyist and media sensationalism. In our household, we hardly watch the news anymore! I have to say, after not watching the News for a while we noticed that we felt much more relaxed and happier within ourselves. When we started watching it again it was like we were under attack! I dare other NZ'ers to do the same and you will see what I mean. Trina

*Environmentalists are ruling the roost in New Zealand. They don't get challenged enough by the media or opposing parties. It is time that sensible environmental groups got going to challenge the extremists. Jim

*New Zealand does pretty well as far as protecting the environment is concerned. The activists are totally unrealistic and as such very dangerous. Philip

*So much crap is talked about with regards to green issues that people don't know what to believe anymore. And they thrust the propaganda down the throats of children as well. It is all disgraceful. Raewyn

*I'm sick of the rubbish that gets dished up as news. I don't read the newspapers anymore preferring to get my information from the internet. John

*It is the indoctrination of children through the propaganda they teach in schools that is the worst aspect of the environmental agenda. That needs to be changed. Tim
