This week's poll asks:

Do you support the disestablishment of the office of the Human Rights Commission and the Race Relations Commissioner - agencies that cost taxpayers over $10 million a year?

Quote:
*For a long time I have thought that Joris de Bres is very biased against white persons. Also during his watch apartheid has advanced by leaps and bounds in N.Z. The only thing that we can thank him for is that he has shown us why we would be a lot better off without a Race Relations Commissioner. Ray

*They have produced nothing... as have another 70 Governmnet departments you previously listed. They all need to be audited and closed...if I told my farmer friends what goes on with these Government projects and the huge waste they would come to town and hang these guys up. Max

*The Race Relations Commissioner is the “most Sacred “ of sacred cows, being as it is, milked by every liberal/ethnic indigenous rights or Greenie with an axe to grind in New Zealand over our appalling racial treatment of those who claim to be “indigenous”. Of course we need to remove this cancer from our society; both its present occupant and most of the previous ones have been if not outwardly confirmed socialists, certainly fellow travelers. Have the present National Government got enough backbone to remove this office? Be practical all parties in this country if not in election mode, certainly will be after the budget. Despite P.M. John Key’s poll performance, and the lack of any sort of leadership emanating from any other party. National is not going to antagonize its support from Maori, or indeed incur “World” displeasure from the United Nations over such a move. (That is if they can find out just where we are in the vast Pacific.) David Round’s recent article tells the real discrimination being inflicted upon the citizens of this country, but politics, the Treaty, Maori Rights, and Cultural demands will override everything and we should hang our heads in shame over our inaction. There is a quotation which now fits present day Western Civilization - Great Empires and little minds go ill together. Brian

*He is a bigot that is doing immense harm with biased approach to race issues. Tom

*I have seen nothing worthwhile come from this office and the Hone Harawira debacle just capped it off. Pat

*It is a waste of time and money, does no good and to top it all off the current Commissioner is a blatant racist against those of us who are of European descent. I can only imagine what wrath he would have come down with on any white skinned Politician how had called the Maoris black m/f's. What is certain is that should this have happened that Politician would no longer be in Parliament. He should be removed from the position immediately. Allan

*I believe it should go , if necessary functions are vested in the Ministry of Justice. De Bres should never have been appointed. For as long as I can recall he has been so far to the left that he is in danger of falling off the flat earth upon which he resides. Complete political neutrality is a pre requisite for any office similar to that of Race Relations Commissioner. Peter

*More trouble than they are worth. They do little to discourage racism if anything. The NZ Courts should be the agency to handle serious human rights & race issues. T & H

*And while they are at it, lets get rid of Ministry of Women's Affairs. If we really thought about it, we could also weed out other useless, money wasting organisations. Maori Health springs to mind. Oh, did I really say that? Naughty me...... Me a racist, no, but I am prejudiced, just like everyone else. Neil

*Both the Human Rights Commission and the Race Relations Commissioner should go. Key should also be abolishing the Ministry of Women's Affairs, the Ministry of Pacific Islands Affairs and the Ministry of Maori Affairs. These agencies are anachronisms, and should have gone long ago. The sad reality is that Key seems intent on holding on to power and will not ruffle feathers. Much easier to order the public to do the belt-tightening. Gavin

*Appears to only offer value for the taxpayer dollar to around 15 % of the population ( note I did not say "taxpayers" ) Dave

*Just another State Agency that has no positive purpose, dump it immediately and put the $10m into Education or Health. James

*It seems to be a crime having white skin these days. It apears the blacks will only be happy when there are no white fellars left.then there will be real trouble. Murray

*They have outlived the purpose they were setup for. Know they are pushling their own agenda. Joan

*Also a note on the UN bill for rights of indigenous peoples,or what ever it is, Moari are not the indigenous peoples of NZ, the Moriori were. Maori came here second. Grahame

*No merit the result of de Bres' action is disunity among the population rather than unity and collective national cohesion. Chris

*In calling for the resignation of the Race Relations Commissioner, I think that you are being too kind and polite. A far better idea would be to coat him in hot tar and feathers and run him out of town. This idiot De Bres is the most bigoted and biased Racist of the lot. He has caused more racial strife and disharmony than any other single person in NZ. Some one should inform him of the fact that there are other kinds of people in this country beside Maoris. Get rid of him Pronto and the money saved could be classed as a bonus. Ralph

Quote:
*I should think so! It causes more racial unrest than any good it does. Deborah

*Absolutely - de bres should be made redundant (without the golden handshake). He appears to be hell-bent on creating divisiveness between White NZers and the rest. There have been other instances where he should be pulled into line and told his job description, but the best suggestion is to get rid of him altogether, along with all the other superfluous depts and quangos that are costing us taxpayers heaps. We are a small country of 4million people - I suggest all immigration should be stopped, especially from the Middle East. We are asking for trouble for future generations of NZers with races hell-bent on imposing their "religion" on us. Doesn't KEY realise that he would win votes by listening to sensible middle NZers, instead of pandering to ethnic varieties. Carolyn

*Absolutely, these two agencies are precipitating more racial disharmony then any other activist group in NZ.We can put up with the rantings of Hone Harawira. This subversive, Joris de Bres as his fellow wreckers have to back in their holes before NZ flies apart. Ced

*If they are overstepping their duties of watchdog of discrimination against race and violation of human rights, then yes re-establishing them within the courts could be a solution especially if they are now trying to dictate to the majority. However, the replacement solution must also have a degree of independence from government so we able to receive unbiased opinions. Simon

*What's wrong with being ONE race. We should all respect each others values - but that doesn't mean we cannot be one race. We have lots of different religions in New Zealand - they can still be part of one race. I've said it before and I will say it again, there is not one person on this planet who has as much as 50% of maori blood in their system - so it is a nonsense for our so-called maori's to be up in arms about the wrongs which have been inflicted on maori. They cannot choose to ignore the rest of their heritage which is probably the very people who they claim have wronged them. I cannot understand what is wrong with the Politicians of today giving so much emphasis to this nonsense by the "Maoris". Those "Maoris" are simply bludgers who are trying to get something for nothing. Delwyn

*Joris de Bres's cultural marxism is politically incorrect with his attempt to kill our language, culture, country and way of life. His attack on Greg Clydesdale's '08 telling the truth about Pacific Is. underclass' was cowardly and he & his office have no place in NZ society. Ministry of Women's Affairs can go straight after the Maori Affairs has closed! Monica

*If everybody is equal under the law, then any disputes can be settled under that precept. Jack

*For sometime it has been more and more apparent that The Race Relations Commissioners like to fuel Racial problems together with the fact that while we have separatism within the fold we will never be ONE Country as we hioed that National would lead to. However they too have gone the other way. Marylin

*The Commissioner, like many others presiding over ridiculous entities like this is just another socialist trougher. These people contribute nothing to the economy other than handing back as tax a portion of their inflated salaries. Get rid of the lot. Leeches and parasites all and I think the NP will sort them all out over time. David

*Because I believe they should stay, we should have more organisations like that and this would make the world a better place. Megan

*Yes and leave the corrupt UN as well. Carole

*Of course they are a total waste of money -- but is anyone listening to the wish of the people? John

*There is no place for it in our society. Neil

*"Mind you the Race Relations turkey did us ALL a great favour when he ruled that "cheeky darkie" was far worse term than "white m.fer"!!!!! Now anything in the same vane as "white m.fer" is ok. I have personally found this extremely liberating, in fact I use similar terms several times each day whilst driving to & from work!!!!! So, in a way, I'll miss the RRC's silly comments.BUT, he has to go!!! Dave

Quote:
*I totally agree with avoiding separist racial policies in favour of all citizens having an equal chance to succeed and participating in a true NZ culture and not one imposed on us by a govt. official or any UN body. There is a good example of a similar body being absorbed into an existing Govt. dept, ie. the Building Act now being administered by the Dept. of Internal Affairs. Like this it is probably a lesser evil to have excessive muddling and red tape than to try to impose long unwanted changes to NZ culture. ie non-Maori culture. Alan

*Yes, disestablish both of them. We have far too many agencies costing us dearly. It's time we all woke up to the fact that we can't afford all of these 'agencies' when they could be assimilated into one and thereby save all the extra salaries paid out and for what? Have they really served any useful purpose? I think not. Maybe before immigrants enter New Zealand they should be told that they must accept our laws and if they can't do so, then there is no place for them here. Of course indigenous New Zealanders must also abide by the law - which means no racist comments such as one of our MP's made! Dorothy

*I emphatically agree and while they are about it disestablish the Maori Language commission and the Geographical Board. The latter is intent on the Maorisation of all N.Z. place names and eliminating European identity. Whever their is a choice take note: the Maori name usually wins every time. My thanks to Dr. Greg Clydesdale fir his research in a hostile University environment. Colin

*I must say I question the usefulnes of a poll like this. Anybody with half a brain, having really read your article will have to say 'yes' to the question as it is asked. I saw the interview with Joris de Bres on TV and I despair of the interviewer not asking him some pertinent questions along these lines apart from a half-hearted attempt. And this was Paul Henry who is not exactly known for his left-wing attitude. Maynard

*Abolish them and merge basic functions with Justice Ministry. Don

*If these two agencies were ever needed they have long since passed their use-by date. I can't believe the Race Relations Commissioner was trying to get race-based seats on the Auckland Council! Isn't that the very thing he should be trying to stamp out? Is he trying to create race divisions? The $10m saved would be a bonus, but the important thing is to get rid of these wally agencies. Sheila

*We should be mature enough as a nation not to require these commission. The laws of New Zealand can cope with these rights. One ombudsman at most. Moira

*Absolutely, and scrap the Waitangi Tribunial as well because NZ can no longer afford or need it. Whats more it contributes to racisim and effectively separatisim. People need to foster education and be pomoted into positions based on merit, not race. Don

*"the supercity, Auckland," is surely an oxymoron? Julian

*I support any move to rid this country of as many bureaucrats as possible! When open season is declared and it is legal to shoot them, I will be the first to apply for a gun licence! Keith

*It should most definitely go as I believe the office creates problems not solves them. Pat

*It seems to me that all the Commissions are stacked with left wing idealist sympathetic to the Clark Doctrine. They should have all been obliged to resign when Clark was defeated and National should have appointed their own more moderate left wingers. It is ludicrous to have these Commissions recomending anything. Rocky

*Does damage rather than helping people. Jasmine

*Get rid of all Mickey Mouse socialist agencies. Get back to basics and work. Graeme

*Dr Muriel, You are so right - The Commissioner does not seem to understand that in a democracy like New Zealand, which is essentially colour blind, people from all ethnic groups have every opportunity to be elected to public office. There are many examples of credible candidates from so-called minorities gaining office on their own merits. Dennis

Quote:
*Yes, definitely because the real NZ that many think we value, is being rapidly destroyed. Paul

*No race based ANYTHING in NZ!!!!, or religion!!, no special rights for any group. Rick

*My parents came from the UK. They were citizens of that country. They gave up those rights when they became NZers. No matter our ethnic origin, we should regard ourselves as one people - New Zealanders. By their nature and and function these agencies negate the principle of one nation, one people. Keith

*This idiot De Bres doesnt deserve the effort one needs to use to write about him. Sam

*The whole world needs "human responsibilities", rather than "rights" Jo

*Yes they are just another example of racism. All people in NZ have equal opportunity in education and I object to my tax dollars being spent to further a racist cause. All they have to do is get off their fat arses and do something worthwhile. Warren

*Remove all race or gender based agencies. Richard

*Most definitely. The so-called Families Commission/commissioner and the Ministry of Women's Affairs and all its wasteful hangers on should go. Both well past their use-by dates! Frank

*Yes! Absolutely! I have long thought that this guy is a twit. On one hand he slams Paul Holmes for saying "cheeky darky" but can't find any real fault with Hone Harawira (a politician) saying "white mother****ers" - that's all the information we need right there to ascertain whether he is fit for his job. Peter

*But if should refocus on defending individual rights rather than groups rights. Paul

*Their latest just shows how hard it is for them to justify their existence. Bob

*This weeks article is brilliant. The problem with politicians in this day and age is that they are more concerned with attracting votes than doing what is logical, and right for New Zealand. David

*But not for financial reasons, as $10m isn't really very much - but it is a start. Geoffrey

*Agree totally with all your comments re negative effect of divisive suggestions and legislation we need to be one NZ. It is beyond me how changes to accomodate immigrants change our way of life i.e. offensive crosses and Nativity plays etc , but if you went to their countries of origin it would be adhere to current rules or leave! Absurd. Sally

*We lived very well without them in the past. Their views are almost always counter to common sense. Roy

*Get rid of the commissioner and all his ilk, including Maori seats, Maori Hospital wards etc. Phil

*It would be interesting to think of terms for people who believe that the Treaty is a partnership or that Maoris are indigenous to NZ i.e. Treaty Partnership Fantasiser and Maori Immigrant Deniers. Phil

*In fact any Govt agency with the word "Commission" in the title should be seriously reviewed and scrapped if it is found to be unnecessary. TEC would be a great place to start! Dave

*We dont want racial boundaries that define our differences. All New Zealanders should be treated equally. No special seats, no special welfare benefits, no special flags, no special settlements. I come from a country where race divided the nation. It does not work. Everyone must be treated equally and have equal opportunity. Colleen

*Why stop there? Let's get rid of more of these PC namby pamby do gooders many of whom have never had a proper job. Rodney, where are you? Peter

*We should be one nation not a group of nations. Catherine

*This organisation is a UN puppet and a cancer to our nation and should be excised as a matter of urgency. B & H

*Waste of money - there is no need for race based policies. Malcolme

*It is already illegal to assault or harass anyone. Anna

*I strongly object to taxpayer money being wasted in this way. If the Human Rights Commission and the Race Relations Commissioner wish to evangelise for the United Nations let them obtain their funds from the UN. Rob

*You are on the right track! Joris should have been sent home years ago! Gerard

*High time Political Correctness was sent to the rubbish bin! Susan

*United we fall, divided we stand? Yeah right!! Eelco

*I see this as the better path to take..the one he suggests, is not democratic, and this is what we aim to be in N.Z. Jane

*Race Relations commisioner, isn't that something to do with the TAB where all the average punters lose?
This topic has raised its head at many gatherings which I have attended and even the Maori people at those gatherings feel insulted by its patronising nature. The fact that it seems esential to appoint persons of dubious impartial opinions and values gets to the core of the matter. We are immediately apprehensive when we see the pedigree of the appointed one and know in our hearts the main reason why they have been appointed, to add more picky detail to issues which don't exist.
They are a waste of time and space. Mike

*They're a waste of time & money. Donald

*This weeks article is spot on over the last 30 years over our race relations have slide to low ebb if our present Govt do not take a stand against all the rubbish that goes on at the moment we will have a dictatorship ruled by a minority The Race Relations Commissioner should be sent of to where he came from we certainly don't need his likes in our country. Russell

*I'm sick of the pro-minorities arpartheid which afflicts this country. Selwyn

*We should all live under the same rules and regulations. If you want to come to this country to live then accept our regulations or basically bugger off back to where you came from. As for the treaty of Waitangi bury it now and lets get on as one people. Barry

*Yes, what a waste of money for 2 agencies that keep race relations in the 'manner to which it is accustomed'. Especially Race Relations - what a joke!! John

*John Key and his government are just carrying on from the Clark government. If only Don Brash was the Prime Minister. Lorna

*The sooner the better. Waste of money and other resources. Catherine

*We cannot afford these agencies. they do nothing positive for the country and can only hold it back. Peter

*Didn't this nonsense of Maori and others in jail appear in a UN report some time ago? So it's not even original research! Derrick

*Labour and Helen Clark over the last 10 years have, BROKEN the fabric of NZ society, we now no longer have a national idenity. TIME to regroup and sack the demigods.....Carl

*This office causes more racialism then it solves. Get rid of it. Woodie

*We must keep it but be more careful who is appointed in future. There have been some good race relations commissioners but the present mistake must not be repeated. K

*Get rid of them both before they completely destroy the fabric of our society. They are an absolute menace.
I have been worried about John Key ever since he stated that PC was no longer a problem about a year before the election when he disbanded Don Brash's Remove PC Group. I realised then that he was a pinko if not totally red! Jim

*There's still plenty of space here in Aussie, and you never hear the word maori mentioned! Come on over while you can, there is nowhere near the amount of political correctness here! KP

Quote:
*Hear-hear! His "judgements" are so transparently politically oriented, Joris de Bres has no place in a taxpayer funded organisation. Eneka

*We do not need institutionalized racism that these departments represent. Chris

*These agencies do not reflect views of the voters. John

*Once again New Zealand is being influenced by the United Nations and Helen Clark who ran the "Nanny State" here holds the third highest position in the U.N. The sooner those that live in New Zealand become New Zealanders ("Kiwis") and have one law for all the better. Let all those who wish stand for election do so on merit and not on racial grounds and abolish all racially based seats both in local and central government. Harry

*He is one of the most radical of racist's in the country. Donald

*All New Zealanders should be held equal.
Equal rights and subject to the same laws.
No racial seats in either national or local government.
New Zealanders should be ("Kiwis").
Not referred to by their racial background.
We are fast becoming a divided nation. Harry

*Initially, there were good and valid reason for founding these two commissions but now, in so many instances, they operate outside their original terms of references giving the impression of following their own personal agendas. Their PC approach to matters contributes little or nothing towards building a cohesive society. Arthur

*It is so galling constantly read anti-white rascist comments by the Race Relations Commissioner. He has a completely biased attitude, and shouldn't be in any job to do with race relations. The office should be completely scrapped if this is the best they can do for us. Lorraine

*Not on racial grounds but economic grouds. Yet it is fair to say that the majority rules in this country who are later arrivals to this coountry after george grey's men murdered the true residents of this land. Yes Maori do need help to ecome equal in knowledge and abilities, and to have their say of governence where its is largly put down by the majority. Rawiri

*The very name is a total farce for they do the exact opposite of conciliation, which of course is what the UN wants to happen- just stir up trouble and make everyone so paranoid that they will believe their only hope in this world lies with this ridiculously over-funded and highly inefficient organisation. Hugh

*NZ is now a Race base Society. This must be changed. Mark

*It is high time many more Govt. Agencies were either merged or disbanded. Remember we are still in the middle of a major recession and we have to cut our clothes according to our cloth!! We also have to get rid of all the excess from the last 9 years administration. Andrew

*The Racist in Chief should get his marching orders. Peter

*High time it was abolished. A complete waste of money. Barbara

*The UN and it's criminal backers have been behind Globalisation for 50 or more years. De Bress's behaviour is in line with what is termed harmonisation. As the word depicts it is intended to do a great deal of HARM to the middle classes who are constantly being targeted by the elite bankers to be annihilated and robbed of all the real estate that they possess. Political correctness is a socialist and fascist ploy that serves only those criminals that have taken over and hijacked the UN. Emanuel

*Yes! Please let's get rid of him and the race relations office. He is bad bad news for our country. His arrogance astounds me! Margaret

*It has always been a Racist organisation; and a totally unnecessary waste of money. Bob

*The Human Rights Commission and Race Relations Office should never have been established. It is another leftist organisation whose mission it is, is to rip apart the fabric of New Zealand Society. Dianna

*A great example of moronic use of tax payers money!!!!! Less bureaucracy please!!!!!! Andy

*Yes, or rename it the separatist advancement agency. John

*The commissioner always talks in bull shit. Michael

*When interviewed on “Breakfast” Joris de Bres made much of the fact that the number of complaints about race relations had increased remarkably in 2009 to 1253. At no time in this interview did he mention that 752 of these complaints concerned Hone Harawira who made what are probably the most blatantly racist comments from a politician in recent times. Does the race relations conciliator quietly agree with Harawira? Do we need either of them? John

Quote:
*The proviso being that the appointees be truly neutral. Shaun

*The good old UN, trying to control everything from climate the race relations and making a botch of the lot. Tim

*NZ has too small a population to warrant this dept. As to the ethnically unemployed situation - if they had to go through the sort of process I went through to get into NZ half of the population in NZ would wouldn't get imigration status, so why do we let so many non contributary people into NZ. Gary

*$10 million is a pittance. This should not be the reason for axing this imbecile. How about Beneficiary-Bennett gets off her AMPLE, TAX-PAYER FUNDED buttocks and SLASHES the $2,500 million DPB bill? Mark

*For way too long this agency has been a tool for divide and obfuscate politics of teh socialist left to allow their collective policies to be preached with each ethnic hearing a different sound. One law one rule and one justuice agency is all that is required. Richard

*Racism is rampant in NZ, if something should go it should be the ministry of womens affairs, as men suffer much worse discrimination than women. Viv

*The jaundiced view of this office will accelerate division in this nation. May even be an aim of there's backed by the UN. Philip

*Definitely it should go. Our Government does enough by itself in promoting apartheid in this country. Arthur

*They are so past there use-by dates it is not funny. This last commissioner is pathetic. Wendy

*But when has common sense ever prevailed with govt spending. Barry

*Absolutely not! We should never allowed Muslims into our country. John

*Get rid of the lot of them. They are creating nothing but problems for this country. Brent

*Once again you are so completely right and this needs to be corrected. Tony

*Certainly they should both go - along with the other agencies that are totally one-sided in their outlook. Chief among these would be the Ministry of Women's Affairs. Don Brash would have axed most of them by now - John Key seems too weak and PC to do anything effective where holders of minority views are likely to be offended. John

*These two agencies should head the list for closure. Julien

*NZ faces a choice; racism or democracy you cannot have both. Ray

*And there's a fair number of others that could go at the same time - we have ministries, commissions and so on for the most ridiculous things - Minister of Racing for God's sake, Minister in charge of the SAmerica's Cup, The Rugby World Cup - let's get rid of all but the pure basics and dump all the hangers on and leeches on the public teat. Grant

*The commission promotes pure selfish racialism, end od storey!! Charles

*The Race Relations Commission must go, as it is fundamentally destroying New Zealand though it's ideology and spin doctoring. It's governing principles appear directly from the Orwellian Ministry of Truth. Donald

*It is nothing more than a sop for political ends and another consequence of MMP. There are others. What about Women's Affairs, Children's Commissioner & various others. All they do is sap the taxpayer's of their hard-earned taxes. All their activities could and should be absorbed into existing departments. If we even need them at all. John

*As each day passes John Key makes Helen Clark appear to be more of an option. I didn't subscribe to her politics, but at least you knew what they were. Cyril

*In this country, it only white people that can be rascist and intolerant. Richard

*United we fall, devised we stand????? Eelco

*Joris de Bres is solely focussed on so-called discrimination against Maori. He ignores the sometimes blatant discrimination by Maori against, Pakeha. There were over 700 complaints of racism made relating to Hone Harawira's vicious racist statements. We have yet to see any action whatsoever by de Bres against Harawira. The Race Relations Commission is a fraud and must be abolished along with the Human Rights Commission. Doug

*Same as Ministry of Womens Affairs, Ministry of Families - get rid of them all! Rob

*These agencies should have been abolished long ago - they have done a great deal of damage to NZ all under the guidance of that shocking body, the UN! Sue

*The antics of Joris de Bres have always been appalling. He should have been sacked long ago. And the grief he created for Dr Clydesdale is inexcusible. Anthony

*Yes, yes, yes - get rid of the HRC and the RRC and the Privacy Commission and the Equal Employment Commission and the Ministry of Womens Affairs and the ministry of Ethnic Affairs - where do I stop? - ASAP!!! Barbara

*John Key won't have the b*lls to disestablish these organisations. he has turned out to be a yes man rather than the real leader we were all hoping that he would be. Shame really - but these organisations are dangerous and need to be abolished. Kenny
