Climate change data fabricated

“I thank Dr John Bates for courageously stepping forward to tell the truth about NOAA’s senior officials playing fast and loose with data in order to meet a politically predetermined conclusion.”
– Congressman Lamar Smith
Science Committee Chairman

Trying Trying to stop humans producing greenhouse gases is very big business. Trillions of dollars a year are ploughed into projects linked to man-made global warming.

Leading the charge is the United Nations, which raised the alarm in the early nineties by establishing the Framework Convention on Climate Change that defined climate change as being caused by human interference with atmospheric composition.

All the signatories to that Convention, including New Zealand, agreed to this definition, even though accepted geological history showed the earth’s climate is in a natural state of constant flux, with temperature and carbon dioxide levels that have been both far higher and far lower than the present day.

Since establishing the Framework, the UN has been trying to persuade governments that mankind is now responsible for climate change, by using computer models that largely ignore the sun, cosmic rays, ocean currents, water vapour, clouds, volcanoes, and the multitude of other natural factors that influence climate. Despite the inaccuracy of their models, politicians continue to rely on their predictions when developing policy.

Central to the UN’s plan is the Green Climate Fund, which was established in 2010 as a mechanism by which wealthy countries would finance poorer countries to reduce emissions and adapt to climate change. Their target is US$100 billion a year by 2020.

New Zealand’s $3 million contribution has helped bring pledged funds to US$10 billion. Of that, US$3 billion was committed by President Obama – without the approval of Congress. He made the first US$500 million payment by executive order last March, and the second, three days before leaving office. The US$2 billion still owed, is now the responsibility of the new President.

Donald Trump, however, campaigned on stopping such payments within 100 days of winning office: “We’re going to cancel the Paris Climate Agreement and stop all payments of US tax dollars to UN global warming programs”.

The 2015 Paris Climate Agreement entered into force last November, binding almost 200 countries – including the US and New Zealand – to limiting global warming to below two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by 2100. With the US being the world’s second-largest greenhouse gas emitter, if President Trump withdraws, it is widely thought the accord could collapse.

The President has until April 29th to fulfil his 100-day campaign pledges, and while he’s yet to make any announcement about Paris, on the home front, he’s already starting to overturn President Obama’s global warming policies.

Scott Pruitt, the new Environmental Protection Agency head (who doesn’t believe that mankind is causing global warming) is starting to unwind the regulations to cut greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power stations – a central plank of President Obama’s plan to meet US obligations under the Paris agreement.

Understandably, those involved in the climate change industry are deeply concerned about the future, with some scientists reportedly copying climate data from government computers – including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – and storing it on outside servers.

It is these actions that triggered the disclosure of yet another major scandal involving climate science. The whistleblower is Dr John Bates, a former principal scientist at NOAA, who retired last year after a 40-year career in meteorology and climate science. Dr Bates is this week’s NZCPR Guest Commentator:

“I read with great irony recently that scientists are ‘frantically copying US Climate data, fearing it might vanish under Trump’. As a climate scientist formerly responsible for NOAA’s climate archive, the most critical issue is actually scientists who are unwilling to formally archive and document their data. I spent the last decade cajoling climate scientists to archive their data and fully document the datasets. I established a climate data records program that was awarded a US Department of Commerce Gold Medal in 2014 for visionary work in the acquisition, production, and preservation of climate data records, which accurately describe the Earth’s changing environment.

“The most serious example of a climate scientist not archiving or documenting a critical climate dataset was the study of Tom Karl et al 2015, purporting to show no ‘hiatus’ in global warming in the 2000s. The study drew criticism from other climate scientists, who disagreed with the conclusion….

“I provide the details of how Mr. Karl failed to disclose critical information to NOAA, Science Magazine… regarding the datasets used. I provide suggestions for how we might keep such a flagrant manipulation of scientific integrity guidelines and scientific publication standards from happening in the future.”

Dr Bates’ full disclosure can be read HERE.

Essentially, he outlines how former NOAA director, Thomas Karl, breached their rules on scientific integrity when he published a sensational but flawed report that “maximised warming and minimised documentation” in order to make the biggest possible impact on world leaders at the Paris climate conference in 2015.

This bombshell report claimed that the ‘pause’ in global warming since 1998, had never existed.

The ‘hiatus’ or ‘pause’ had long been a thorn in the side of UN scientists, who had predicted that if mankind is responsible for global warming, any rise in human-induced greenhouse gases should produce an increase in global temperatures. However, while CO2 has continued to increase, global temperatures stalled in the late nineties.

The Karl report eradicated the pause by claiming world temperatures had been rising faster than expected. Its release, just before the Paris conference, is said to have had a significant influence on the outcome.

At the time, the NOAA website proclaimed: “A new study published online today in the journal Science finds that the rate of global warming during the last 15 years has been as fast as or faster than that seen during the latter half of the 20th Century. The study refutes the notion that there has been a slowdown or ‘hiatus’ in the rate of global warming in recent years… Our new analysis suggests that the apparent hiatus may have been largely the result of limitations in past datasets. One of the most substantial improvements is a correction that accounts for the difference in data collected from buoys and ship-based data.”

This claim is at the heart of the scandal.

Dr Bates says that the data used in the Karl study was ‘unverified’ and not subjected to NOAA’s rigorous internal evaluation processes. Nor was it archived and made available to other scientists. In addition, new computer software used in the analyses, that had not been ‘approved’, turned out to be ‘error-laden’.

While Dr Bates strongly objected to the publication at the time, he says he was overridden by his superiors.

The study was essentially based on two new flawed data sets that re-calibrated sea and land surface temperatures. The reliable lower atmospheric temperature data, that is readily available from satellites, was ignored by the authors.

The ocean dataset, which was constructed by bringing the accurate data from buoys into line with the unreliable readings from ships (ships are a heat source and use variable sampling techniques), tripled the warming trend of the sea during the years 2000 to 2014.

And the land dataset adjusted ‘unverified’ temperature readings from over 4,000 weather stations around the world, to also increase the warming trend during the years 2000 to 2014.

These two datasets were then merged to produce the exaggerated warming that allowed NOAA to claim that there was no global warming ‘pause’.

After the paper was published in 2015, the US House of Representatives Science Committee launched an inquiry – but NOAA refused to comply with their subpoenas.

However, as a result of Dr Bates’ latest disclosures, Science Committee Chairman Lamar Smith has revived their inquiry:  “Allegations of politicization of government funded scientific research cannot be ignored. The Committee has a constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight in instances of alleged fraud, abuse, and misconduct especially where the government’s scientific integrity is called into question.  Dr. Bates’ revelations raise additional questions as to whether the science at NOAA is objective and free from political interference…”

This scandal is not dissimilar to the controversy in the late nineties involving the infamous ‘hockey stick’ graph, developed by US climatologist – and IPCC Lead Author – Michael Mann, which featured in IPCC reports and Al Gore’s film, An Inconvenient Truth.

By showing the earth’s air temperatures as being stable for 900 years, then soaring off the charts in the 20th century, the Medieval Warm Period (when the Vikings colonised Greenland) was eliminated, creating the illusion that that recent warming of the late 20th century – as the planet emerged from the Little Ice Age – was no longer within the bounds of natural variability.

That fraud was eventually uncovered by Canadian policy analyst Stephen McIntyre and Professor Ross McKitrick of Guelph University, who found that the temperature “proxies” on which the graph was based involved a small group of Californian bristlecone pine trees that had experienced a 20th century growth spurt – except it was not due to global warming, but to fertiliser!

By using ‘contaminated’ data, Michael Mann had created a climate crisis that did not in fact exist. Even though the US Congress ordered two reviews, both of which condemned the hockey stick graph, the IPCC refused to acknowledge the controversy and continued to misrepresent the warming of the late 20th century, by replacing Mann’s studies with reports by UK scientist Keith Briffa, who used tree ring proxies from the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia to create a similar hockey stick shape.

Professor McKitrick outlined the controversy in an article for the NZCPR in 2009, explaining that because the Yamal series was a composite of tree cores, individual measurements were needed to check the calculations, but Dr Briffa refused to release the data.

“Over the next nine years, at least one paper per year appeared in prominent journals using Briffa’s Yamal composite to support a hockey stick-like result. The IPCC relied on these studies to defend the Hockey Stick view, and since it had appointed Briffa himself to be the IPCC Lead Author, there was no chance it would question the Yamal data.

“Despite the fact that these papers appeared in top journals like Nature and Science, none of the journal editors ever required Briffa to release his Yamal data. Steve McIntyre’s repeated requests for them to uphold their own data disclosure rules were ignored.

“Then in 2008 Briffa published a paper in a journal called the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, which has very strict data-sharing rules. Steve sent in his customary request for the data, and this time an editor stepped up to the plate, ordering the authors to release their data.”

It turned out that the ‘hockey stick’ uptrend came from a sample of living trees that was too small to produce a publication-grade proxy composite, and when a larger sample was added in, the spike disappeared and the 20th century appeared completely unexceptional.

Professor McKitrick said, “I have been probing the arguments for global warming for well over a decade. I have consistently found that when the layers get peeled back, what lies at the core is either flawed, misleading or simply non-existent. The surface temperature data is a contaminated mess with a significant warm bias, and the IPCC fabricated evidence to cover up the problem. Climate models are in gross disagreement with observations, and the discrepancy is growing with each passing year. The often-hyped claim that the modern climate has departed from natural variability depended on flawed statistical methods and low-quality data. The IPCC review process, of which I was a member, is nothing like what the public has been told: Conflicts of interest are endemic, critical evidence is systematically ignored and there are no effective checks and balances against bias or distortion.”

In 2009, the ‘Climategate’ scandal shook climate science, with thousands of leaked emails revealing that data was being manipulated and access was being blocked to stop other scientists from trying to replicate studies.

Dr Bates’ disclosure has revealed that nothing has changed – climate data is still being manipulated and findings engineered by those with an interest in promoting global warming scaremongering.

The real scandal is that in spite of all of these revelations, politicians are still continuing to rely on this fabricated information when they make crucial policy decisions that cost taxpayers dearly and affect lives.

If the US withdraws from the Paris climate accord, should New Zealand follow suit?

The whole thing is and always was a complete nonsense. Ronmac
But it won’t as the topic is political not rational. Terry
When the USA pulls out this Paris agreement flawed as it is, it will be history. Why our Government is still carrying a torch for it baffles me; it will be due to losing face more than anything. Those that cry out about how hard President Trump’s trade policy will be for New Zealand need to come down to earth. Trade will continue irrespective, as it has always done, and our Politicians and their bureaucrats need to come out of the Obama era and face the future.  Brian
NZ does not need to constantly tag along with participant nations of which some are far worse polluters than we ever will be. Surely we have our own problems which — if there is enough political and citizen support– can be tackled within our own means. On the other hand — globally –we have the problem of science being hijacked by corporate interests in order to deliver data to create a scheme to let consumers everywhere pay for every ounce of carbon emitted. This in itself is a paradox since all producing companies are hellbent to produce and sell stuff to us and then let us pay for all the carbon emissions caused by industry . This is the biggest ponzy scheme in history!! The conundrum is that independent scientists findings and data are either surpressed or manipulated in order to create an ‘alternative truth'( the pc word for lie). Michael
Absolutely! It should have withdrawn from this litany of lies and manipulated false propaganda long ago and regardless of any decision by the US. Bruce
We are only a small country in the scheme of things. Let’s see how things progress with Trump’s decision but I would prefer to withdraw as I do not believe humans can make any difference to how the climate change can be affected. Audrey
Obviously it’s all one big scam that only uses tax payer’s money…It is a lie and should be stopped!!!! Adriana
NZ should withdraw regardless. Our politicians should do the reading, ask the difficult questions, and come to the same. On lesions as most others who have done the same…. then state what will become obvious. That catastrophic anthropogenic global warming is a fraud, and withdraw from further involvement. Murray
I’ve said all along it is a tax scam!! Brianb
We should have been out years ago. Craig
Apart from everything else why does man continue to think he is more powerful than nature i.e able to affect the world’s temperature. Pure arrogance. Terry
Absolutely we should withdraw. There is a complete lack of credibility in this whole area especially when the science cannot be questioned and challenged without vicious and substantial abuse being directed at those calling the science into question. Its an obvious gravy train of beneficiaries with no moral fortitude for honesty and transparency in findings and predictions. Accurately documenting data is just one of the seriously questionable actions of these fraudulent people/scientists. Carol
We should withdraw anyway. Densi
http://dougedmeades.com/ Read this on false climate change data. Climate change is a growth industry driven as a easy tax medium by all governments. Tom
Since reading Prof. Ian Plimer’s book “Heaven and Earth The Missing Science” some 10/12 years ago I have never been a believer in the IPCC/ Al Gore lie. Albie
The world should by now be aware of sensational and FAKE news. Jo
Climate change is a lot of rubbish. The planet will do its thing no matter how much MONEY the scammers want, so yes get out and run. James
Change of seasons needs to be the correct name of climate change. Donald Trump & Steve Bannon need to fulfill their election campaign promise and not heed Trump’s daughter, Ivanka and her husband who are changing the wording and lessening the need to get out of Paris Climate Con deal. Monica
First it was global warming, and when that couldn’t be proved, it becomes climate change. The whole thing is a scientific (I use the word loosely) hoax. Steve
A Global financial scam…….Follow the money trail!! John
Any money money NZ. pays carbon emission schemes goes where. There is no doubt we humans are creating pollution but that is not necessarily influencing the natural cycle of climate change. Bryan
Even if the US does not withdraw New Zealand should. Climate change is the biggest scam ever perpetrated in the history of mankind. Kerry
I have always thought that the climate change was a great big rort for certain countries to make money out of. Digby
Time to stop the gravy run and help reduce taxes. David
I have never believed the climate change fiasco, especially when it was all about global warming. My argument at the time was that it was not my personal experience. My personal data was such that when I first moved to my current address we had 3 frosts the first year. 10 years later we had 15 frosts that year. Now the scenario is called climate change. Well if global warming wasn’t correct the question is “Is climate change happening in the way these same so-called scientists claim. It is interesting to note that their data is published in so-called scientific journals such as Science and Nature. These are read by the general public and not scientists as such. If the data was scientifically accurate why not publish in truly recognised scientific publications. I don’t what they are for that field of science but for chemistry one of the most highly regarded publications is Journal of the Chemical Society – Dalton Transactions. Data and publications in an environmental equivalent would have more kudos. So far climate change has all been proven to be a load of crock. Kevin
It’s all a con and has been from the start. A waste of decent taxpayers money. Mike
Peer pressure and or ignorance Motivates our politicians. They need to do their homework. 300 top climate scientists signed a declaration that GW currently accepted science was wrong. John
Listen to Ann Bressington, Australian M.P. speaking on Agenda 21 – she explains the climate change scam very well…. Rowena
This affair has been tried in two overseas Supreme Courts, New Mexico but forget the other, who concluded it was failed to prove climate change existed but was proven that the gasses Climate Change condemned were, indeed, good for the planet. This is no more that a tax grabbing scam, fleecing the public by mass propaganda. George
And launch an investigation into NIWAs data adjustments, especially with respect to the Seven Station Series. Mike
It is a colossal hoax. John
Absolutely. We are being misinformed by so many with their own interests at heart. Glenn
Protect our country. Neville
New Zealand should withdraw regardless of any US decision. Peter
Have to agree. Climate change in evitable. Their are natural events which are contributing more pollution than mankind. (For example volcanic eruptions). Pollution was the catch word of the early 1970s. Today the catchword is climate change. Time we all got over the catchiness. Peter
Insufficient evidence to convince me. Peter
There are other issues besides temperature rise that give concern. For example, air pollution in major cities, increasingly higher levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, acidification of the oceans and the thawing of polar ice. So we still need to act. Also the renewables industry is starting to produce energy solutions that are more cost-effective than fossil fuels. Jamesee
NZ should withdraw anyway. Larry
There is no need to wait for the USA to make a decision. NZ should withdraw now to lead the world in pointing out the necessity to follow client science and not politicians. John
Flaws in the accord there may be, but not looking at climate change (manmade or otherwise), would be a foolish choice. Dave
The blaming of the greenhouse gas explosion on humans is one of the biggest hoaxes perpetrated on the human race. I do not doubt as a species, humans have made an increased contribution, but nature has made an even bigger contribution. The vegetation of the earth probably gives us a big thank you however. Expending more money and placing greater restrictions on CO2 generation does service to no one. Cancel our obligations to all climate change treaties. Michael
Absolutely! Maddi
Never should have been in there in the first place. John
Through milennia, the weather pattern has continually altered especially when we think back to the Ice Age. Man could not have been involved with the Ice Age changes and Each year we continually hear of the changes caused by global warming– which written in our publications. Man does not cause global warming- Global warming is a natural state of the earth cleansing itself . It is time scientists stopped being competitive with each other and reported the true facts istead of inventing data. Jenny
Trump is correct – the whole mand made argument is a miasma of chicanery, deceit, unscientific data and speculation. Note the Polar bears are still with us after eons of warm periods!! Tom
Absolutely. Set an example that we’re not a nation of stooges who can be hoodwinked by pseudo science. Peter
As President Trump says it is a hoax! 5 ice ages over the last 2 billion years confirm that it is! The US has withdrawn the paperwork is in motion bu the US State Department. Put the saved money into child poverty!!! Instead of supporting the rise of international socialism. Frederick
The hoax is fast unravelling – a chance for the National Government to grow some balls!! Brian
If the Rt Hon Bill English denounced the Paris accord, the Nats will fly back unopposed in September. Athol
We’d be mugs to continue funding and supporting a known scam of immense proportions. I have always thought it was a scam anyway and our governments suckered into supporting it. Bryan
This would be some ‘real leadership’…courage will be required to swim against this PC nonsense. Brian
Al Gore started this hoax and the whole situation has become a money making fraud NZ withdraw and spend the money on education. Go Donald Trump. Ken
This “climate change” article I have just read speaks volumes about the corruption and manipulation of flawed data to determine a false outcome, of which governments are using without integrity to make expensive policies on emissions costing tax payers globally unnecessarily and unlawfully due to a huge lack of “true scientific evidence”! Bruza
We should withdraw regardless of what the US does! Peter
It’s OUR tax money & OUR wishes should NOT be ignored as USUAL from the govt.We elected the govt. & pay their HUGE saleries to LISTEN. Cindy
The fact that the main-stream media continues to uncritically report the sort of bogus data that Dr Bates (and many others) has exposed) is a shocking indictment on their unwillingness to do their job. Ron
This hoax has been going on for too long and needs to be terminated. Lee
Should never have been there in the first place. Grant
I think we should withdraw anyway!! Christine
Do our politicians have the backbone? Alan
Cliimate change is a load of bullocks. Simon
Climate Change is a hox as the climate has been changing through time since long before “man stood up and walked for the first time”. Chris
A global con job that needs to be corrected. Norm
Enough of this con. Phil
Always was balony, I remember back in the 1950s people were talking of the H Bomb testing causing climate change. Nothing has changed. Pat
Climate Change has become the new religion. Peter
At last! The lies are being found out. Brian
I object to tax payers dollars being used for this UN driven fabrication. Jim
Why follow Donald? David
Nothing new under the sun!! Jan
Local pollution is an issue. Man-made global warming is an entirely different issue, and a fraud and a rort. The cosmic sphere is outside of man’s control and significant influence. Didn’t the Creator say He sends the winds and the rains. We should withdraw but continue to work on pollution and fighting off man-made global warming. Jack
We need to put maximum pressure on our politicians to withdraw immediately from the Paris agreement. Cyril
Climate change is a cyclical thing and so long as the world’s people care for the planet where they can I think we shall keep spinning. Man can not stop natural events and neither should he. Elizabeth
It is illogical to stay within the Paris Climate Accord, if the data proving the 20th century climate spike has not been provided for verification and has, in fact, been proven faulty. Ursula
Our govt is too easily led by scams. This is just another – ask the politicians how much they have paid of our taxes to the useless, toothless UN. Then ask how much they gave to another scam called The Clinton Foundation. How many others have we not been made aware of? Carolyn
Climate change is part of the natural pulse of the life of our planet. In the past our planet has experienced global warming alternated with Ice Ages, and will continue to do so regardless of what we humans do. The Fiords of Fiordland are evidence of this. Climate change is natural and inevitable.. Urban
Eventually we will have to reduce adding to atmospheric gasses that have the capability to alter our climate for the worse. Ross
It’s a load of old bollocks used as a means of gathering revenue. Terry
There are far more URGENT issues that we should be concerned about…but primarily the rampant population explosion and its adverse effects on the global environment. Tony
Do it anyway, someone is making a lot of money out of this scam. Clark
I strongly believe the so called global warming is a natural evolution of the planet, not man made. A lot of people have made a very lucrative career in scaremongering about global warming. Ray
This Global Warming scam, now known as Climate Change has been going on for far too long. It’s time our politicians looked at the matter logically and not simply believed all the misinformation being fed to them by the crooked UN and other suspect sources. Gifford
Cliimate has changed and continues to change to the detriment of the United States in particular. Doing nothing, which is Pruit’s approach, is an act of faith, and faith has been absolutely useless in dealing with Mother Nature. Dene
We shouldn’t have to wait for the USA to pull the plug before we do it. It is time we stopped holding on to the coat tails of big brother. Dennis
Makes you wonder about governments. Barry
After Brexit and US result the case for a further examination of corrupt reports is overdue. Douglas
What a load of BS! The climate has and will always change!!!!! Nothing to do with farting cows!!!!!! Andy
Earth is in its normal state of evolving. Jim
It is the biggest scam the world has known. Michael
Absolutely! And even should the US not withdraw NZ still should withdraw. It is all a scam.  Paul
Read James Dale Davidson’s book”The Age of Deception” chapter 21 explaining how USA ex-Vice President Al Gore amassed a personal net worth of $US 200 million promoting propaganda supporting global warming. Noel
Of course – it has for years been a gigantic scam, supported by most of the MSM including the NZ Herald, TVNZ, BBC, etc. Mike
Why wait? They should withdraw before the USA. Martin
Propaganda is costing us huge amounts of money. Who in National really believes such tripe? Catherine
We don’t have to follow the states on this issue. Ray
We could even show some leadership and withdraw before the US. Neil
The earth has been going thru cyclic temperature periods of 10000 years for many cycles (6 ). Man is not the main problem the planet itself is. John
Man made climate change is based on flawed data. Lew
All the more because we a small two islands in the face of the world. The amount it is costing this country with carbon taxes on every part of our lives has to stop now. Di
New Zealand doesn’t need the US to withdraw before us. As “the cleanest greenest country in the world” you would think that we could take the lead! Now wouldn’t that put us on the map? Neil
And the political appointees at Victoria University Wellington to further the lie should be fired. Rex
f not before he does Jim
It’s pointless if the biggest player in the world is not part of it. Andrew
Pure science relies on peer review and accurate data. In a true scientific environment, there would be no need for those who challenge global warming doctrine to be blackmailed by threats of research funding cuts and refusal to renew professorial tenures. Hugh
It is hard to believe all the ‘science’ that holds climate change is totally man made. I’m prepared to accept that human activity in burning fossil fuels doesn’t help, but this is only a recent factor so how about all the previous instances over the millenia? Considering NZ’s contribution to greenhouse gases is only a fraction of a degree, what is the point of creating costly hurdles for the enrichment of the scammers? Graham
The whole thing is a hoax. Tom
Climate Change associated with Global warming is real. Cold areas is in keeping with the Climate Change forecasts in NZ;, tropical air coming southwards, and antarctic air coming north. There are changes in deep ocean currents, and there is fear that the Gulf Stream may move from northern Europe which will therefore be much colder. Alas, it is common for us humans to deny reality that asks for changes way outside our comfort zones. But that is what is needed or we will find fire and flood a problem commonly, not 1:100 years or 50, or 20. Rochelle
It is a scam sterted in 1895. Mike
Don’t follow them – lead them! Wally
Abasa-bloody-lutely Donald
Climate chnage has always been with long and short cycles, deep and shallow cycles of wind and sea temperature. Global warming is just part of a cycle. Hot and cold. the focus on climate change is political and fashionable. David
The US dose more danage to the climate along with Russia and China. If the US pulls out it will cost us more in payments and money we don’t have. Robert
Of course it should. So-called “climate change” is a racket like any other. Trouble is, it seems to fool a good many of the proletariat. John
Perhaps we should lead the way. Donna Lafromboise exposes it all. Doug
NZ should not wait for the US to withdraw. Gert
IT is just a scam. Colin
We should probably withdraw whether the USA does or not. Don
Climate change maybe but NOT man made. Mike
Seasons have shifted, by 2 mths, I believe global warming is a natural cyclical phenomenon. Wayne
New Zealand should never have signed in the first place and just because the un said we should and our corrupt scientist’s were too stupid to disagree we now pay millions to a toothless and lying organisation. Richard
Absolutely over the CAGW nonsense. Absolutely unable to believe that people with an IQ greater than a parsnip can believe the equine excreta. Just hope that Ivanka doesn’t doesn’t de-rail her old man’s plans to de-fang the IPPC. Dave
Time to put the final nail in the coffin of the biggest scam in the history of the world. David
Climate change legislation is con job, the earths climate has been changing from day one so whats new, nothing! You cannot tax a country into properity anymore than you can tax climate change. Les
Of course they should; but of course they won’t. Number one, we are a nation of sheep who seem to like being told what to do. Secondly, we have had more than a generation, indoctrinated, not educated, at school, to believe in the rubbish disguised as science. Notice how the propaganda machine has gone into over-drive, since the one honest politician, [Trump] who’s country has been wasting millions of tax payer $$s on an industry [climate change] that should not exist, announced, ‘The whole thing is a scam’. THE GLOBALISTS ARE IN PANIC MODE.. A.G.R.
It matters not one iota whether or not Trump withdraws. NZ MUST withdraw because the whole matter has been corrupted from the top down to the bottom AND to pour money into the fallacious AGW charade will cripple NZ. Auntie Podes
NZ only SUPPOSEDLY contributes 0.2 % so called greenhouse gasses anyway and that is without any credit given for grassland and bush carbon sequestration. Geoff
Time to repeal our ETS. Australia does not even have an ETS! Joan
We must withdraw from an overstating regime whose only agenda is to create employment based on a farce. Charles
NZ should make up it’s own mind based on the fact’s. Edward
Continuing to support this sham is costing NZ millions of dollars – for what good cause? Jeff
Trump is not stupid, Al Gore is and was. And as a harbinger of ‘fake-news’, the left and UN are more dangerous to the survival of the human race than any climate change. Ced
Most definitely .Our green house gas level is so damn low as to make not a spot of difference to any sort of so called ” human made global warming’ This whole business of carbon tax etc has been thrust on us by politicians blinding following falsified “scientific” data. Graeme
But they won’t. Ron
The whole climate change industry is nothing more than a financial rort so of course we should pull out of the agreement. Mike
What is happening is a natural process the world goes thru Thru the dating and dendrochronolay a study I was involved with some years ago with their University from overseas of the ancient swamp kauri logs in NZ a calendar to date going back 151 000 years shows that global warming and climate change has happened 12 times before- over this time frame. Noel
It a pc construct. John
No. Let’s have a mind of our own. Bruce
Humans causing global warming is the biggest hoax ever perpertrated on mankind. Peter
NZ needs to be out of the accord forthwith we are all getting ripped of with the so called climate change what a scam. Russell
Like warm summers and hate the cold? watch regularly Spaceweather.com and research Maunder minimum. We are getting a blank sun ie no sun spots and cosmic rays are now getting through. Also look at Prof, Zharkova’s work, and Dr Evans in Australia. Be concerned, very concerned. John
We’re so small in adding to the greenhouse gases that we’re really insignificant and it’s more harmful and expensive for us to stay in this club. Rayward
As usual we have a whole lot of nonsense being peddled as evidence. All full of lies and corruption trying to pervert the truth in the pursuit of public money to keep worthless backsides on unproductive seats. The whole thing is a sham and those who naively believe the climate change hysteria should be removed from influential positions in public office and should be deprived of public funds, entirely! Dianna
The trend in temperature is modelled and as shown the models do not account for many of the variables. It is also ludicrous that neither China nor India two of the largest emitters do not need to comply with the Paris accord. NZ has a small emissions base due to a large renewable energy sector and it does not make sense to penalise ourselves in a misspent effort to clean up our backyard. Charles
Without the US it will be a lame duck anyway. Kevin
Not really sure. David
Given the potential consequences of climate change and the significant number of variables, the precautionary approach should always be taken. What if the climate change deniers are wrong? It will then be too late to change, particularly when you look at current air quality in the world’s major cities. John
Advise the media too. Neville
I believe the funds directed to climate change measures are open to abuse. Much of the revenue is perhaps being used for monitoring this taxation and I believe we can do better without taxes such as carbon credits. Let us work towards a world effort to reduce plundering our forests – i would rather see efforts made in that direction than buying so called tax credits. Peter
Absolutely. It has always been bull shit and a terrible waste of tax payers money. Bob
There is little proof that world temperatures are increasing because of humans producing CO2 and if America withdraws from the Paris Accord there will be small chance of its success. I believe we are wasting money on projects to reverse man-made global warming when there is no proof that it is happening. Elaine
We shouldn’t wait for the US we should withdraw now.! David
So much BS coming out from tainted scientists. Why was it so easy to predict countries ripping of the carbon credits scheme from day one. Philip
We should never have been there in the first place.. Al Gore decided that he needed something to do when he missed out on the presidency so made a film which started the entire process and probably made him more money, as if he needed it. The whole thing is a scam. Mike
Most definitely YES! Probably the biggest scam of the environmentalist movement of the 20th and 21st centuries. Its intention is to enslave us, even though they won’t admit it, through controls, regulation and taxation. Don
NZ should never have signed in the first instant. Pete
The NZ media casually take global warning assertions as gospel, and never publish contradictory data. Time to have a truly representative showdown, demanding the revealing of thedata basis of for each sides assertions. Bill
There are far more worthy projects within NZ, such as improving law & order, health, that this money should be spent on. Maurice
There is no replicatable science supporting this scam – it is a political construct. Rex
Sooner rather than later, the science quoted is garbage. Phil
It is time these so called climate scientists were held to account. They do a great disservice to the science community. Funny how money corrupts. Tim
New Zealand should show some common sense (intelligence) and independent thought and LEADERSHIP and withdraw without waiting for the US. John
There is no doubt in my mind that climate warming due to atmospheric gases is totally wrong. We do not here anything about the earths orbit veriations which currently put the earth closer to the sun on its 11000 year cycle. Ian
I don’t see any relevance. Beryl
Time to put a stop to the man made climate change rubbish. Brian
This shows the world lying as usual but individually this stops us join the sheep. Lance
I have never believed the data on climate change being the result of human beings. It is being used as a tax grab. Bernie
Should never have signed in the first place Phil
It has now been shown that the ipcc and other “climate scientists” have used post truth before the words were invented. Lachlan
Too much fraud in the climate change industry. William
Bates has set himself up as a “credible” skeptic and as such can look forward to a very remunerative retirement bolstering climate change skeptics. Tom
It’s all been a CON for far too long. William
Definitely. Fake science ever since it started on this bent. Graeme
NZ should withdraw regardless of what the US does. For every so called climate scientist who supports the concept of man-made warming, there is a better qualified scientist who opposes it. John
We should not wait We should withdraw right now and overturn the ridiculous Government Policy to accept this rubbish. Robin
You have to be very brave to challenge the ‘groupthink’ on this subject – well done! David
The accord always was, and will continue to be a deeply flawed agreement. Graeme
We have to stop dishonest politicians following the corrupt advice of dishonest ill informed scientists. We have to stop saying yes to fabricated tax. Max
Your published report agrees with my personal observations over a very long period. Jayjay
….lies more lies and dam lies..some cranky low life brainless unqualified researcher talking total bollocks..!!! Christopher
Why haven’t we got enough guts to make our own decision?? Why do we need to get on knees to other regimes? Get out of the Media MIRE….. 🙁 Ian
This political scam has been another waste and distortion of real science and valuable resources that many political believers have either been sucked into or deliberately promoted for their own agenda. Long time fake news – again! Stuart
We should never have signed in the first place. was there a political deal involved? Judith
We should never involve our selves in these sort of world events to our cost. We are a small new still developing country. We do not need increased electricity prices to prop up the united nations. Wayne
Man-made climate change is a political not a scientific process. I meet people who just trust scientists and know nothing about data gathering or verification. Roger
Evidence against mam made climate change continues to gain traction as solid facts emerge. Bryan
AGW = Climate change = Petitio principii John
This is all part of “one world order” which does not and never will apply to all parts of the globe. Sheep and goats do not mix. There are too many other factors which the “world order” fail to appreciate. Do not allow somebody sitting in UN tell us what is right for us. Brexit and US election should be a lesson to the one world order. Ashley
Global warming is a load of crap. always has been. Why are people so easily brain washed. Dona
NZ should withdraw regardless. The whole issue of man made global warming is a gigantic hoax. Trevor
Politicians and the public are are not getting balanced scientific information to the actual climatic change situation. There has to be an agreement among scientists as to the base data to be agreed and used in all their assessments. Unfortunately this is unlikely so the pro climate change brigade will continue to benefit financially from their stance. Keith
The Climate Change industry is the biggest scam ever and is a black mark on the ‘Scientific Community’. Peter
Why not do it ourselves now? Alan
New Zealand should never have been in the Paris Talks. We have known from the days of Gore that the Climate Change was a political scam to support the UN approved Agenda of a communist type NWO and to bring in a UN global tax under the umbrella of a carbon tax which would fund a UN Army and Police Militia.. To preserve our Unique New Zealand individuality and preserve our liberty New Zealand should exit the UN , exit all climate talks and abandon carbon tax including the insidious forestry tax. This country needs indigenous jobs not taxes to foreign powers and that includes the UN. Richard
I think that Climate change is over-rated and some-what suspect. Ian
New Zealand should show some leadership and withdraw regardless of what the U.S.A. does, and preferably before. Peter
More political rubbish which our sheeplike politicians just follow along with out doing their own research. Pathetic, they just listen to the fake news. Greg
Most definitely. We should never have signed up in the first place. I’ve always thought it was a total nonsense to even think humans could change the climate. Helen
This is just another making business .Even if you accept which I don’t , their so called warming figures , they are only talking points of a degree , which is in the margin for error category. Jock
We should never have signed up in the first place. Rob
I have always believed that so called climate change was just part of the natural order of earth through time. Mary
Look at my comment here to see how flawed the process is; https://www.neighbourly.co.nz/message/view/18837155 Collin
It’s about time that this false “science” regarding anthropogenic global warming, is put to rest. Ron
They should never have joined in the first place – a load of unscientific hogwash! At last the chickens are coming home to roost. Alan
The fact that their conclusions were based on faulty/doctored data underscores NZ need to re-evaluate our support of the accord. Mark
Absolutely not. It seems strange that you highlight the enormous funding spent to keep scientists employed who support global warming but not the equally larger sums spent to maintain the status quo ie climate change deniers – the wealthy Koch brothers for a starter. Barbara
We should withdraw any way. Robert
It would save us as Kiwis, millions of Dollars from being thrown down the plug-hole by being paid to ‘someone’ and make absolutely NO difference to our Climate. Geoff
NZ should pull out even if the US doesn’t. What a rip-off! Wayne
There are reports from one of the leaders, a woman from Costa Rica, that the climate change debate is not about climate change but about destroying the capitalist system and taxing western countries to give the money to third world dictatorships. This is reported in several publications but here is one: http://www.investors.com/politics/editorials/climate-change-scare-tool-to-destroy-capitalism/ It is a scam. Anthony
We should leave before the USA. Carl
New Zealand should never have signed up to the Paris accord. National has sold out to the rabid environmentalists.  Jeff
Yes, yes, yes – go Donald Trump!  Gordon
The whole global warming/climate change debate is just so ridiculous – it defies logic to think that mankind can alter the climate. The sooner NZ pulls out the better. Craig
Surely anyone who has learned even a modicum of science at school will know that carbon dioxide is the basis of life on earth, and that the biggest influence on the climate is the sun! Michael
I have always thought that if Donald Trump goes ahead with calling man-made global warming a scam, that the whole world will follow. It’s like the emperor with no clothes – it needs someone to take a lead and be the first to call it out. Penny
